While the Rose McIver version of the comedy continues, the UK version of Ghosts is coming to an end with its upcoming fifth season.

Fans of the American series Ghosts need not worry. This isn’t about the Rose McIver version of the series. Instead, it’s all about the British series that the U.S. one is based on.

Ghosts in the UK started in 2019. Brought to fans by those behind Horrible Histories, it follows Allison Cooper and her husband who inherit Button House through her father’s side of the family. After an accident in the house, Allison starts to see the resident ghosts.

There are a few of the characters that the U.S. version took straight out of the series. The UK Pat was transformed in the U.S.’s Pete. Nigel in the UK version was used to develop Trevor in the U.S. version. Then there’s Humphrey who is used as inspiration for Crash in the U.S. version. Of course, Lady Button is the UK’s version of Hetty in the U.S. series.

Ghosts Season 5 is the last of the BBC series

The UK series is much shorter than the U.S. one. Each season only has six episodes, which is pretty standard for a UK show.

The fifth season has just finished production, and that’s when the BBC announced that it would be the last season. This isn’t a show that’s been canceled, but one that the writers have found a way to end. After all, all good things eventually need to come to an end. The decision to end allows everyone involved the time to work on other projects.

Lead actress Charlotte Richie has been involved in other projects while working on the show. You’ll know her as Kate in You Season 4!
