Good news Cruel Intentions fans! It has been revealed that a new adaptation of the 1999 film is in the works and may be on Amazon Prime. Starring Sarah Michelle Gellar, Ryan Phillippe, and Reese Witherspoon, the film follows two step siblings as they attempt to use manipulation and seduction against an unwitting target. Now, a Cruel Intentions series is in the works!

Since then, it has spawned a prequel and a sequel and there were talks of NBC picking it up for a series, but that did not go anywhere. Now, TVLine confirmed that Amazon put the series to order and will likely be on their Prime Video streaming service.

Originally, their Freevee service was developing the project, but now it is possible we will see it on Prime Video. Since the project was just announced, this could change.

While Gellar is not involved in the project, the series will have a similar feel to the original film. Let’s go over what we know so far about the Amazon project.

What is the Cruel Intentions series about?

What we know so far is the series is focused on two step-siblings, who are described as being “ruthless” and are determined to keep their spot at the top of their college’s Greek life hierarchy. However, an incident involving a hazing threatens to ruin their reputations. In order to stay on top, they decide to seduce a girl who so happens to be the daughter of the Vice President of the United States.

When is the series going to be released?

All we know is that the series is set to begin production in Toronto in June, 2023, so we might see the show next year in 2024. We’ll keep you updated as more information is released!

How many episodes is the Cruel Intentions series

Amazon ordered eight episodes of the series.

The series began development in 2021 and the original film’s producer Neal H. Moritz is among the executive producers. The pilot was reportedly co-written by Euphoria’s Phoebe Fisher and the original Gossip Girl’s Sara Goodman.
