American Horror Story season 1 cast: Who is the original AHS cast?

American Horror Story is one of the most popular TV franchises with 11 seasons under its belt — and with more seasons on the way! Do you have a favorite season of the anthology series? Each AHS fan may give you a different answer, but more than likely the answer is the very first season. Who is in the American Horror Story season 1 cast that started it all?

The first season of American Horror Story truly set the tone for the thrills the horror series would bring. This is all thanks to an amazing and incredibly talented cast, most of which stuck around for many seasons to come.

American Horror Story: Murder House follows the Harmon family as they move into a new home hoping for a fresh start. What the family doesn’t know, is that the house comes with its own residents, the ghosts of all who have died there before. Also haunting the family, are their own demons, including infidelity and a miscarriage.

So who are the OG’s of American Horror Story? Here’s who stars in Murder House:

  • Connie Britton as Vivien Harmon
  • Dylan McDermott as Dr. Ben Harmon
  • Evan Peters as Tate Langdon
  • Taissa Farmiga as Violet Harmon
  • Denis O’Hare as Larry Harvey
  • Jessica Lange as Constance Langdon
  • Frances Conroy as Moira O’Hara
  • Lily Rabe as Nora Montgomery
  • Matt Ross as Dr. Charles Montgomery
  • Alexandra Breckenridge as young Moira O’Hara
  • Jamie Brewer as Adelaide “Addie” Langdon
  • Sarah Paulson as Billie Dean Howard
  • Morris Chestnut as Luke
  • Kate Mara as Hayden McClaine
  • Zachary Quinto as Chad Warwick
  • Eric Stonestreet as Derek

Britton is wonderful in the opening season, but only returns in American Horror Story: Apocalypse. McDermott does star in more chapters, including American Horror Story: Asylum and American Horror Story: 1984. Taissa Farmiga returns in American Horror Story: Coven, American Horror Story: Roanoke, and American Horror Story: Apocalypse. 

Taissa Farmiga, Denis O’Hare, Frances Conroy, Lily Rabe, and Zachary Quinto also go on to star in multiple seasons. But the two names that should stand out the most from this list, are Evan Peters and Jessica Lange.

Evan Peters stars in every season except 1984, and he is not expected to star in the upcoming season New York City. And then we have our AHS Queen, Jessica Lange. Now, Lange may have  only starred in the first seasons (and returns in American Horror Story: Apocalypse), but she’s the main character and such a force.

Finally, one name that is notably absent is Kathy Bates, who joined the franchise in American Horror Story: Coven. The actress stars in four other seasons.
