Live-action Lilo and Stitch release updates, cast, and more

Yet another live-action adaptation of a classic Disney tale is on its way! Lilo and Stitch will be making its way to a screen near you sometime in the near future. The original film debuted over 20 years ago, introducing audiences to Lilo, Stitch, Nani, David, and lovable aliens who ended up spawning spin-offs and sequels that captured the hearts of fans.

This live-action iteration of their story will be directed by Dean Fleischer, whose indie film Marcell the Shell With Shoes On charmed moviegoers and earned both an Academy Award and Golden Globe nomination. Not much is known about this coming Lilo and Stitch adaptation, but here’s what’s been announced so far!

Live-action Lilo and Stitch plot

The plot is still under wraps, however, the live-action film is expected to follow the core narrative of the beloved 2002 animated movie. Lilo is a young girl who befriends the alien Stitch after he crash lands on Kauaʻi. He’s genetically engineered for chaos and destruction while she’s just looking for companionship as her sister, Nani, works to provide for them and fend off social workers looking to separate their family. It’s through their bond that Stitch learns what Ohana means.
