Beau Is Afraid age rating: Why is the A24 movie rated R?

One thing you should do this week is not be afraid to learn more about this new A24 film Beau is Afraid before it hits theaters nationwide on April 21. The surrealist black comedy horror film stars Joaquin Phoenix as Beau, a man who embarks on an odyssey to his hometown for his mother’s funeral while simultaneously confronting his greatest fears. Armen Nahapetian portrays the younger Beau in the movie.
Beau is Afraid is directed by Ari Aster, who is known for his other horror films Midsommar and Hereditary. The film is being produced by A24 alongside Aster and Lars Knudsen under their
Square Peg banner.
Another thing to know about this movie is its strong ensemble cast consisting of veteran actors such as Patti LuPone, Nathan Lane, Amy Ryan, Kylie Rogers, Parker Posey, and Stephen McKinley Henderson.
The film has, so far, received generally positive reviews and has been praised for its originality but should that be the only indicator that you can bring your kids to the theater to watch it? To find out, read on below!
Beau Is Afraid age rating: Why is the A24 movie rated R?
The MPAA gave Beau is Afraid an ‘R’ rating. This means that this film is not meant for anyone under the age of 17 to see without a parent or guardian as it contains strong violent content, sexual content, graphic nudity, drug use and language. When going to see a horror film, you’re bound to witness these types of elements incorporated into a story of this nature. Without spoiling the plot of the movie, there are several scenes involving physical assault and weapons. This may be too much to bring your kids to but it is up to your own discretion.
