Polite Society cast: Who’s in the action comedy?

Polite Society is making its way to movie theaters this weekend. The movie marks the feature directorial debut of writer/director Nida Manzoor, best known for having created the critically acclaimed series We Are Lady Parts, which centered on an all-female Muslim punk rock band and directed all episodes. Manzoor also helmed two episodes of the hit BBC series Doctor Who in 2020.

The movie premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in January and received rave reviews from critics. As of this writing, Polite Society is currently sitting at a 94% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with the critics’ consensus stating that “Polite Society throws, kicks, and punches the genre etiquette book out the window to deliver a fun film that blends Bollywood splendor and British wryness.”

The movie has been billed as having the same tone and pace as Manzoor’s We Are Lady Parts but with a martial arts twist, effectively blending well-choreographed action sequences and dynamic humor. From the looks of its reviews, it seems like Polite Society will mesh plenty of genres and filmmaking tropes together to create a highly memorable action comedy.

From the official trailer description, the plot synopsis reads the following:

"“A merry mash up of sisterly affection, parental disappointment and bold action, POLITE SOCIETY follows martial artist-in-training Ria Khan who believes she must save her older sister Lena from her impending marriage. After enlisting the help of her friends, Ria attempts to pull off the most ambitious of all wedding heists in the name of independence and sisterhood.”"
