Why did James Corden leave The Late Late Show?

It truly is an end of an era. For almost eight years, we’ve had the hilarious James Corden on our screens weeknights on CBS. April 27, 2023 marked the late night host’s (and show’s) final episode, which you can stream on Paramount+. Why did he decide to leave?

The whole show first started out with Tom Snyder in 1995, followed by Craig Kilborn. Right before Corden was Craig Ferguson. On the last episode, we got to see actor Will Ferrell and hit artist Harry Styles as guests.

It’s not clear why the network decided to bring the show to an end instead of bringing on a new host. That’s what typically happens. But we do know Corden’s reason for saying goodbye. Why did he make this decision? We’ve got the answer for you below!

Why did James Corden leave The Late Late Show?

Back in January 2023, Corden appeared as a guest on The Drew Barrymore Show. That’s when he talked about his exit and the decision behind it. The main reason is because he wants the chance to spend more time with his kids. Because if you’re a fan of Corden’s you know the comedian is multi-talented and wears many hats, including acting.

He told the daytime talk show host that though it wasn’t easy to walk away, “it became a very easy decision,” while he was filming the movie Mammals. On a Sunday morning his son asked whether he was working that day. And when Corden said yes, stating there wasn’t much time to film the movie because he had to get back to The Late Late Show, “his face just kind of dropped,” Corden said.

That’s when the Brit realized he needed to make more time to spend with his family. Corden married his wife Julia Carey in September 2012. The couple have three kids together, two boys and a girl. Check out what he said below:
