Jury Duty, the Amazon Freevee and Prime Video original series, is one of the biggest new shows of 2023. The first season came to an end on April 21, 2023, and now, fans are wondering what’s next for the series, if Jury Duty season 2 is happening, and when it’s coming out.

The season just ended, so there’s still a lot we don’t know, but we have shared everything we know so far about Jury Duty season 2.

We’ll update this story as more information about Jury Duty season 2 is available.

Did Ronald Gladden really not know Jury Duty was fake?

First things first, was Ronald Gladden, the star of the first season, actually in on the joke? As we learn in the season 1 finale, no, he wasn’t in on it. While he noticed lots of weird things happening, he was completely oblivious to the fact that this wasn’t a documentary about a jury during a trial.

It takes a special type of person to continue to put up with all the things that kept happening on Jury Duty, but Ronald is that person.

Is Jury Duty season 2 happening?

At this time, Jury Duty has not been renewed for season 2 yet, but it’s early, as mentioned. The season just ended, and while the series is super popular, it takes a lot of time to work out the details and line things up for a second season. It also doesn’t help that a writers’ strike is looming, and that could change things regarding the renewal and possible timeline for season 2.

Overall, though, Jury Duty season 2 seems very likely to happen. This show likely didn’t cost very much, compared to other shows and movies, and it seems like a huge success. It will be interesting to see where things settle in terms of the viewership numbers and ratings, but things look really good for Jury Duty season 2.

On top of that, Cody Heller, the producer and showrunner of Jury Duty, confirmed to Variety that they are interested in making more, but it’s likely it wouldn’t be about jury duty again.

"“You couldn’t just do jury duty again, because then people would be like, ‘Wait a second.’ But I do think that it’s possible. I do think there’s a million different worlds that this kind of thing could exist in.”"

So, maybe it won’t be called Jury Duty again, but it sounds promising that another version of the show will happen with one or multiple people who are not in on the joke.

Does Jury Duty season 2 have a release date yet?

Unfortunately, Jury Duty season 2 does not have a release date yet. That would be tricky without a renewal. We’ll let you know as soon as we find out more information about the potential second season.

I have a feeling we’re going to have to wait quite a long time for season 2, though. Shows like this take a lot to plan. They had to spend a lot of time casting the perfect person in Ronald Gladden. It’s been reported they looking through 4,000 applications before Gladden got the job.

There’s a lot of research that will have to go into pulling off a heist like this, too. They have to create a realistic, believable scenario for this to work, and doing that is going to take a while.

At the earliest, we’d see season 2 sometime in 2024, like summer or fall at this point. They’ll need at least 12 months to write, cast, film, and edit another season of a show like this.

Honestly, the longer they wait to do it again, the better. More people need to forget that this show exists before they can dupe someone else.

Jury Duty season 2 cast needs to include the season 1 cast

We also don’t know who will be in the season 2 cast. Outside of a few unsuspecting folks, I would love to see the cast of Jury Duty return in some capacity for the second season. These were excellent actors!

I’m sure they would have to include at least a few new cast members, too, and that’s what we would like to see. But, if they can figure out a way to bring back James Marsden or Ronald Gladden (who is in the joke this time!), it would be amazing.

We shared the cast of the first season below:

  • Ronald Gladden
  • James Marsden
  • Mekki Leeper
  • Edy Modica
  • Ishmel Sahid
  • Cassandra Blair
  • Alan Barinholtz
  • Rashida Olayiwola
  • Maria Russell
  • Kirk Fox
  • Ross Kimball
  • Susan Berger
  • Pramode Kumar
  • Ron Song
  • Brandon Loeser

When was Jury Duty filmed?

Jury Duty was officially announced on Sept. 15, 2022, when the news broke that Amazon filmed a documentary-style TV series starring James Marsden. Before that, no one outside of the industry had heard about the show.

The series was filmed over a 17-day period. We don’t know exactly when production took place, but we do know the series was in development for years before it was released. Casting started in 2021 with somewhere between 2,500 and 4,000 applicants (reports differ!) to be part of a documentary about the jury process.
