White House Plumbers looks to be HBO’s newest prestige miniseries hit. It helps that it boasts a big-time cast that brings to life one of the wilder stories in American political history.

Based on a 2007 book by Egil and Matthew Krogh, the five-episode series begins in 1972 and focuses on E. Howard Hunt and G. Gordon Liddy, the top political operatives for then-President Richard Nixon. The pair are nicknamed “the White House Plumbers” for their ability to plug any leaks to the press by whatever means necessary.

It was this mission that led the two to mastermind the break-in at Democratic National Headquarters at the Watergate Building. This kicked off the epic scandal forcing Nixon’s resignation and the irony that the two men helped bring down the very President they tried to protect.

Alex Gregory and Peter Huyck adapted the five-episode series and it looks to take a somewhat satirical view of this wild storyline. The early reviews are mixed, praising the cast but noting some parts of the story may drag out. Here’s a look at the high-powered cast for this show.

White House Plumbers cast

The show is notable for some big names playing real-life historical figures. Woody Harrelson plays E. Howard Hunt while Justin Theroux takes on G. Gordon Liddy. They’ll be the central focus of the tale as their simple break-in tailspins into a national scandal.

Domnhall Gleeson plays John Dean, the White House Counsel also involved in the scandal whose epic firing signaled the beginning of the end of Nixon. Gary Cole plays Mark Felt, the FBI Deputy Director who became the infamous “Deep Throat” feeding information to reporters Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein.

Interestingly, Nixon himself is never actually shown in the miniseries, which plays on the people around him handling this scandal. Here’s a list of the full cast for the miniseries:
