When does The Bear return with new episodes in 2023?

It’s been about seven months since the FX produced show The Bear dropped its 8 episode first season on Hulu in June of 2022, but we’re still reeling from that intense, close quarter cooking in the heart of Chicago.

The Bear left us after Carmy opened a wall of tomato cans that contained bands of bills Carmy’s brother Mikey stashed away. Carmy had been grappling with the death of his brother since the pilot episode in a storyline that’s sure to continue through Season 2.

We can expect more kitchen chaos as Carmy and Sydney move on from The Original Beef of Chicagoland to starting their new restaurant appropriately named The Bear with the cash. Can Carmy elevate his Chicago restaurant while still carrying the soul of what made The Beef so loveable?

We shall soon find out!

When does The Bear return with new episodes?

Update: May 8, 2023 – Variety reports season 2 is premiering June 22, 2023.

Sharpen your knives, The Bear season 2 is returning with 10 episodes in June 2023.

FX Networks made the announcement Thursday night via their Twitter account. While an exact date has not been specified, what we do know is the 10 episodes will be two more than that of Season 1.

Showrunners Chris Storer and Joanna Calo gave an interview to Variety where they didn’t reveal much, but hinted at upcoming storylines. “Season 2 really is about the opportunity to start fresh and what does that mean. What does Carmen and Sydney’s dream restaurant look like? But also at the same time, what is a dream restaurant in 2023 look like?” said Storer.

The Bear was a massive hit for Hulu in 2022, a year where there was no shortage of fine dining commentary and headlines. Similar to The Bear, the films Boiling Point and The Menu peeled back the layers of upper class establishments parodying the sensationism of a meal that’s more than a paycheck. In the real world The Willows Inn, formerly regarded as one of the best restaurants in the United States, closed its doors amidst sexual harassment allegations and other lawsuits. Recently the top rated restaurant in the world, Noma, announced it was closing as well.

Beyond its timeliness, The Bear has been racking up the nominations this award’s season. This past week Jeremy Allen White, who plays Carmy, walked away with a Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy TV Series. The show received a Globe nomination for Best Television Series – Musical or Comedy.

It is also nominated at the Critics Choice Awards for Best Comedy Series and Best Actor in a Comedy Series and at the SAG Awards for Outstanding Ensemble Performance in a Comedy Series and Outstanding Performance by an Actor in a Comedy Series.
