Kitchen Nightmares was a television show that instilled so much fear in us restaurant-dwellers that it was nearly impossible to dine out without thinking of the travesties that could lie beyond the establishment’s front. But despite our disgust toward lazy restaurant owners, we still couldn’t help but tune in to see how Gordon Ramsay saves the day. And it’s safe to say we weren’t the only viewers captivated by this series.

It’s been nearly 10 years since the last episode of the Ramsay-led title aired. With each year that has passed, fans have been missing the show dearly. But thankfully, they won’t have to yearn for their favorite reality TV series any longer, as Kitchen Nightmares is confirmed to return to FOX.

We’ll have to wait a little longer to learn more about what’s to come. Until then, read on to learn a little more about what exactly happened to Kitchen Nightmares.

Why was Kitchen Nightmares canceled?

With Kitchen Nightmares being a smash hit amongst all audiences, we can safely say that the FOX original series wasn’t canceled because of low ratings. Nor was the show canceled due to backlash or critiques. Rather, the reality TV show left the air because Gordon Ramsay reached his boiling point.

Entertainment Weekly reports that the world-renowned chef bowed out of filming any new seasons of Kitchen Nightmares because he was increasingly disgusted with what he saw at restaurants. From roach-infested ovens to moldy food, Ramsay couldn’t bare to see any more filth with his own eyes. At the time, Ramsay stated:

"I canceled my own show on Fox, Kitchen Nightmares. […] I got a phone call [from Fox] and the call went like this: “You know Gordon, before you take your own show down, don’t you think we should talk about that together, as your partners? We don’t mind you resting it, but we’d like to come back with something stronger."

Ramsay went on to release 24 Hours to Hell & Back to take Kitchen Nightmares. Even so, there was no stopping the adoration many had for the series, which is why the reality series is set to return bigger and better than ever before.

Welcome back, Kitchen Nightmares!
