The Fire Country Season 1 finale saw Bode make a huge sacrifice for Freddy off the word of a lawyer he’d never previous met. Was that a bad idea?

Caution: This post contains spoilers for the Fire Country Season 1 finale.

There was a lot going on in the mudslide during the Fire Country Season 1 finale. One of those was Eve finding out the woman she was with the previous night was a lawyer investigating Third Rock.

The lawyer, Mel, claimed that she couldn’t be with Eve because it was a conflict of interest. Considering Station 42 and Third Rock are two separate entities, that would be a lie. There wasn’t really a conflict of interest there.

Why was Mel investigating Third Rock? Well, at the end of the episode, she told Bode that he was holding Freddy’s release up. You see, Freddy had been convicted of a crime he didn’t commit. There is proof of that now, and yet Freddy is still stuck in the system. Mel claims that Bode is the reason for that.

Those drugs that were in his system? She believes that he is the one selling drugs in the camp, and he needed to step forward to say something like that to be able to get Freddy free. None of it made sense, but Bode wasn’t one to really ask too many questions. He wanted to get an innocent man free.

Can Mel be trusted in Fire Country?

Bode said at his parole hearing that he was the one bringing and selling drugs in the camp. He was sent back to prison, and you just know it’s the same place as Spider, right?

All of this seems fishy, though. Freddy was immediately freed after that. There was no hearing for Freddy, and we saw nothing about him being freed. It’s almost like someone, somewhere wanted to get Bode locked up again and they were willing to keep an innocent man in the system until someone got Bode to admit to something that he didn’t do.

All this connects to that failed drug test. We know Bode didn’t take drugs. Deep down, everyone knew it. Bode was sure that someone had managed to fake that test, and with Mel turning up and her spiel to get Bode to confess to something he didn’t do, it is all coming together.

Could Fire Country Season 2 have everyone realize that Mel conned Bode into something? Is she even a lawyer? Was she working for Spider? Or was she working for someone else who wanted Bode back behind bars?

If Mel was telling the truth and she was just helping Freddy, she had very little on Bode. It still doesn’t make sense why he couldn’t be freed because of Bode. That’s not really how the system works unless Freddy was in on it and agreed to help uncover the secret drug kingpin in the camp. If that’s the case, Mel is a terrible (or is that ingenious) lawyer.
