NCIS season 20 episode 22 certainly gave us a lot to talk about and think on over the summer. The episode continued the storyline where we learned more about the attack Kostya Volkov was planning against the United States. How was he planning to launch this terror attack?

The episode also found Nick going undercover to get intel from Yuri, Volkov’s son, who committed the murder the team investigation in the previous episode. In the midst of this, the team looked into phone records to figure out what Kostya was planning.

The only thing they could figure out from codes were that the attack was giving the code name “Anastasia” and that from the looks of it, the electronic power grid was the target of the attack. In addition to trying to gain insight into the attack, they also discovered Evelyn Shaw was attacked in prison.

Bringing her in, they offered to set her up in witness protection in exchange for finding out what Yri and Kostya were planning. However, she claimed not to know much, only that they knew a fed was in the prison.

While Nick’s identity is under question by Yuri, Kasie and Jimmy work together to make his credibility tighter. As this is happening, they can see through the prison cameras and find Yuri’s men going after Nick. But it turns out that they are after Yuri and he is killed.

Through Parker and one of the suspects, Lev, they determine that Kostya is on his way to the United States by plane. Before they can leave to get more information, the entire grid goes down.

With walkie talkies in place to communicate with Kasie, the team figures out that Anastasia is a clue about a princess and Nick remembers that Yuri mentioned having a sister despite it not being in Kostya’s file. They realize that Evelyn Shaw is actually Kostya’s daughter. She was the mastermind of the entire operation.

The team is able to stop Kostya and Evelyn, aka Viktoria Valkov. McGee gets the power back on and the team goes for a celebratory drink. But Nick is nowhere to be found.

While in prison talking to Parker, he saw a man visiting another inmate, Reymundo de Leon. He learns the man was dating Reymundo’s mom and that despite promising to help him with legal fees, he doesn’t trust him.

Nick also apparently had known who he was, even calling his sister to tell her he found him. At the end of the episode, Nick visited the man and told him as much that he wants him dead. Is Nick actually going to pull the trigger? How is he connected to the man?
