The Idol cast: Who’s in the HBO music drama series?

Ready for the “sleaziest love story in all of Hollywood?” That’s what HBO‘s new series, The Idol, promises once it makes its debut on air!

The music drama premieres Sunday, June 4, 2023 at 9 p.m. ET on the network. Episodes will also be available to stream on Max. There’s a total of six episodes to look forward to. The upcoming show centers on self-help guru and leader of a modern-day cult, Tedros, per the synopsis. He develops a complicated relationship with an up-and-coming pop idol, Jocelyn.

The show was created by Euphoria‘s Sam Levinson, Reza Fahim, and the one playing the cult leader onscreen. Read on below to find out who that is!

Abel “the Weeknd” Tesfaye and Lily-Rose Depp are both leadingThe Idol! The Grammy Award winner will take on the role of the self-help guru, while Depp plays the pop idol. Along with leading onscreen, the Weeknd co-created the series and serves as an executive producer.

When the drama was first announced to be in the works, actors Melanie Liburd, Tunde Adebimpe, Steve Zissis, Elizabeth Berkley Lauren, Nico Hiraga, the late Anne Heche, Suzanna Son, and Troye Sivan were slated as cast members.

However in April, it was announced that the series would be changing its cast and crew, including director Amy Seimetz who has exited, to adjust to a new creative direction, per The Hollywood Reporter. While Son and Sivan are still part of the project, there’s a whole new set of actors now taking part. Here’s the full cast list:

The Weeknd, Levinson, and Fahim are also writers on the series. All three writers, showrunner Joe Epstein, Kevin Turen, Aaron Gilbert, Ashley Levinson, Nick Hall, Amy Seimetz, and Sara E. White take on executive producer duties.
