Batman: The Brave and the Bold release updates and everything we know about the DC film

The upcoming Batman movie, The Brave and the Bold, has found its director in someone who already knows how to handle a DC Comics movie. Who is it and what else do we know about this new movie?

Batman is easily the most visible and successful of DC Comics characters hitting the big screen. From 1989’s Tim Burton movie to the 2022 film starring Robert Pattinson, there have been numerous versions of the Dark Knight, including Ben Affleck in the DCEU. Now, as part of the big makeover for the franchise, James Gunn is crafting a new take on the Dark Knight.

As many know, Gunn is taking over control of the DCEU and is ready to start a new take on a shared universe. Among the big projects for Phase 1 (titled “Gods and Monsters”) is The Brave and the Bold, which is based on the newer comics as Batman has a new Robin in the form of his son Damien.

Birthed from a union of Batman and Tali al Ghul (whose immortal terrorist father, Ra’s al Ghul, is one of Batman’s greatest enemies), Damien was raised by the League of Assassins and thus doesn’t have as many qualms on not killing as his father. The film is set to play on this odd family dynamic as they fight crime.

While there’s no script in place, the movie at least has a director.

Who is going to direct Batman: The Brave and the Bold?

Warner Bros has announced that Andy Muschietti, who directed the current The Flash movie, will now helm The Brave and the Bold. The Flash film has had a famously tortured production, including the controversy over star Ezra Miller and multiple delays before finally coming out this week.

In a statement to Variety, Gunn and Peter Safran shared their thoughts on the director choice.

"We saw The Flash; even before taking the reins at DC Studios, and knew we were in the hands of not only a visionary director but a massive DC fan. It’s a magnificent film – funny, emotional, thrilling – and Andy’s affinity and passion for these characters and this world just resonates through every frame. So, when it came time to find a director for The Brave and the Bold, there was really only one choice. Luckily, Andy said yes. Barbara signed on to produce with us and we were on our way. They’re an extraordinary team, and we couldn’t have better or more inspiring partners as we embark on this thrilling new adventure in the DCU."

The production is still in the planning stages without even a script so far and obviously no word yet on who will play Batman and Robin. That means there’s no word on its release date, although word is Warner Bros is hoping to get it out by 2026. At least with a director in line, Batman is looking to get another big-screen outing when the movie finally hits theaters.
