Secret Invasion has finally made its land on Disney+. The highly anticipated MCU series brings fans on a twisting and thrilling adventure with Nick Fury as he, Maria Hill, Everett Ross, and a Skrull named Tarlos race against time to stop a faction of Skrulls from invading the Earth. The fate of humanity is at stake and, as always with this universe, great peril will befall the planet if our heroes can’t intervene or somehow are interceded themselves.

Even casual observers of the Marvel Cinematic Universe know it’s increasingly sprawling and connected in ways that can be difficult to keep up with if you’ve skipped a few movies or shows. As such, whenever there’s a new Marvel project premiering, prospective viewers want to know if they can go in blind or if they should have some basic knowledge they can accrue from a movie or show or two before jumping into the latest MCU installment.

Here’s what we know!

Do you need to watch the Marvel shows before watching Secret Invasion?

You could choose to go into Secret Invasion with no prior understanding of what’s been happening in the MCU over the past few years, however, it’ll leave you highly confused. But, according to The Wrap, you don’t need a ton of knowledge to be brought up to speed. You don’t even have to watch any of the Disney+ MCU series if you don’t want to. While there is a mid-credit scene in WandaVision involving Skrulls, it’s somewhat of a blip on the map compared to what you can learn from the following two films.

If there’s a must-watch on this list it’s Captain Marvel. The 2019 film introduced fans to a younger Fury who first comes into contact with the Skrulls in the ’90s when he’s working with the superhero. He also meets Tarlos and the two clash before becoming allies.

The second suggestion is Spider-Man: Far From Home because of the reveal at the end that all wasn’t what it seemed to be when Fury and Maria Hill assisted Peter Parker in his overseas adventures. However, if you didn’t watch the first Tom Holland Spider-Man movie, Homecoming, you could be a little lost when it comes to some of the plot developments.

One of the key pieces of information from that film is that Fury’s got business up in space that’s not disclosed until the first two episodes of Secret Invasion. Apart from that, this is your reminder that both Fury and Hill disappeared in the Snap in Avengers: Infinity War which has had an effect on the two and will play a role in this new series. You don’t have to revisit the film if you already understand its impact and the 5 year gap between when characters were snapped out of existence and when they reappeared in a changed world.

If you’re interested in tuning into stories that highlight how the Snap effected this connected universe, we recommend Avengers: Endgame, WandaVision, The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.
