Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, starring Harrison Ford, adventures into theaters Friday, June 30. Needless to say, if you have not watched the other movies in the franchise, it’s a bit late to do so. But do you even need to? Should you watch all the Indiana Jones movies before watchingIndiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny

The thing about a movie franchise, is that if you miss the first couple of movies, it’s not easy catching up by the time the fourth or fifth movie is out. More often than not, movies are not all under one roof. Netflix may be the streaming home for a few, but the others are either on Max, another service, or not available to stream at all and your only option is to buy or rent the movie on VOD.

Another issue? Who has the time? Can you imagine catching up on the Marvel Cinematic Universe before watching Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3? You better free up a month or two. This is why we love to help movie fans out by giving you all a list of movie suggestions, narrowing down the two or three movies you absolutely do need to watch before heading to the big screen for the latest chapter.

Not a longtime fan of the iconic Indiana Jones? We’re not here to judge! Or, perhaps, you simply need a quick refresher, after all, the last movie (Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull) premiered in theaters 15 years ago in 2008.

Indiana Jones movies to watch before Dial of Destiny

There are only four Indiana Jones movies, with Dial of Destiny set to be the fifth and final for the Harrison Ford franchise. Now, watching four movies isn’t a huge task, but if you are pressed for time, you can definitely cut your to-watch list down to two movies:

  • Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981)
  • Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of The Crystal Skull (2008)

You can’t jump into the world of Indiana Jones without watching the movie that started it all. Raiders of the Lost Ark is a must-see before Dial of Destiny. Stream the movie on Disney+ today. I also recommend watching Kingdom of The Crystal Skull, it’s a great refresher and will catch you up on events. This movie is also streaming on Disney+, as well as the second and third movies The Temple of Doom and The Last Crusade.
