The Bold and the Beautiful recap (June 28): Liam makes Hope confess

Based on today’s episode of The Bold and the Beautiful alone, Scott Clifton deserves a Daytime Emmy next year. He played Liam with such quiet disgust as his character interrogated Hope and then pushed her into confessing that she’d kissed Thomas after condescendingly telling her, “You can do it! You can do it, Hope. Do it for me. Say I. Come on say it. Say I. Kissed,” until she finally admitted to cheating while she was in Rome. Clifton was acting.

The soap has been slowly revealing to Hope that her husband knows she was unfaithful and we got to see her reach that conclusion after Liam repeatedly asked her what she’d been up to while in Italy. She wanted to focus on the Hope for the Future preview and its success, but Liam kept pushing her to open up about what she’d done after the showcase. He was relentless in his pursuit even as he answered her questions on why he was in Rome and chose not to see her.

What happened today on The Bold and the Beautiful?

Liam told her that he didn’t say he didn’t see her and that began to clue her in that this conversation was going to go much worse than she thought it was going to go. He shared that he had intended to surprise her but ended up missing the preview. Liam said he had plans to take her on the Stella Maris so they could spend time together. She replied that she would have loved that but Liam’s face didn’t display that he believed her considering what he’d seen with his own eyes.

When Hope said she didn’t want to talk about Rome that she wanted to focus on being home and with their family, Liam still wouldn’t drop the conversation. He insisted on knowing what she’d gotten up to after the showcase. He asked her if she’d gone back to the villa or signed autographs for fans or if she went to go sightseeing and with whom? Asking if she went to see the Trevi Fountain or the Colosseum before he cutting himself off and stating that he knows she went to the Colosseum.

Hope confesses to kissing Thomas

Liam continued to push and as he did he recognized that she couldn’t even say that she’d gone there with Thomas. He couldn’t believe she really couldn’t say it, but he also wasn’t going to be the one to say what she’d been up to because he shouldn’t have to be. After all, as he pointed out, she’d done what she did in public, for everyone to see, because she thought he was home thousands of miles away with their children. But he wasn’t, he was there to witness her betrayal.

So he pushed her to confess. He told her they could do it together and that he would help her. Repeatedly, Liam moved closer telling Hope that she could do it, she could confess to what she did. He even yelled for her to say it, and her face crumpled. Finally, anguished, she did whisper that she’d kissed Thomas. But it wasn’t loud enough for Liam, he cupped his ear and made her say it again which she did a bit louder. Liam’s face afterward? Was dramatic gold. Again, give Scott Clifton the Emmy!

Steffy tells Finn that Hope cheated on Liam

As Liam was making his wife confess that she broke her vows, Steffy was filling Finn in on what happened in Rome with Thomas and Hope. He was blown away that Steffy had been right all along and that Hope was the one they all needed to watch. At first, he thought Thomas was the one who initiated the kiss, but Steffy told him that it was Hope and that Liam saw them kiss. It’s her hope though that Liam can find a way past this and that it won’t end their marriage.

Finn pondered what Liam was going to do next, and Steffy’s mind wandered to the kiss she and Liam had shared. She didn’t tell Finn what had happened between her and her ex-husband. It’s unclear if she will eventually or if this is something that will get swept under the rug or found out at the least opportune time for her and Liam.

Ridge tells Taylor that he chose Brooke

With the allure of amore behind him, Ridge had to continue facing the reality of choosing Brooke and what it would do to his relationship with his best friend and ex-wife, Taylor. She made it clear to him that while she’s heartbroken for herself, she’s more heartbroken for him because she knows how this will end. It always ends in the same way for him and Brooke. They’re fine until Brooke lies to him or betrays him, she only tells him the truth when she’s forced to, and then she somehow makes herself the victim.

Taylor was adamant that Ridge was making the wrong choice by going back to Brooke. She listed off Brooke’s major offenses while also noting that she, too, had been with his brother so she’s aware that grievance doesn’t hold as much weight, but her point was that Brooke will always be Brooke and she will always hurt him.

Though it also should be noted that Taylor did reach the conclusion that it’s not Ridge’s job to convince her he’s not going to get his heartbroken and that this time is different. Just like it’s not her job to convince him otherwise no matter how strongly she feels about it. Ridge knows where she stands and he knows that she loves him. He also knows she’s aware he and Brooke had been growing together before the pact was broken, and that she was right about Brooke’s intentions for the trip to Rome whether he’s willing to engage that talking point or not.

Meanwhile, RJ and Brooke were at Forrester Creations in the main office discussing her reunion with Ridge. He was ecstatic that his parents are back together and gave his glowing approval for them to get married when Brooke asked his thoughts on the matter. He was, however, concerned about how Taylor would be taking the news since Brooke shared Ridge went to speak to her.

It was obvious he was worried about and felt bad for Taylor, but it was also clear that Brooke didn’t seem to share in his certainty that she and Ridge were back together for good. RJ kept referring to their reunion forever changing things but all Brooke did was let him talk and then smile at him without agreeing or saying something one way or the other. It was interesting choice by the writers that I’m hoping gets explained soon.
