The Walking Dead: Dead City has premiered and is a treat for fans of the TWD franchise. Bringing back the characters of Negan and Maggie Rhee, we get to see them in a new environment away from Hilltop as they travel in search of Maggie’s son, who has been taken by someone from Negan’s past. Since they are so far from home, where is Hilltop located?

There are so many locations within TWD verse so it can be hard to keep track. Plus, with years in between the original show and its franchise spinoffs, some of these locations may have changed, which is the case with Hilltop.

Hilltop is a community that the characters from The Walking Dead discovered in season 6 as they looked for a safe place to go after the zombie outbreak. Eventually, Maggie would take over as leader of the Hilltop and she has continued to run it, even after their relocation.

In The Walking Dead: Dead City, years have passed and Maggie has left Hilltop at this point on a personal mission. She is currently on her way to Manhattan with Negan in an effort to locate her son, Hershel, who was abducted by the Croat.

Where is Hilltop located in The Walking Dead?

The original Hilltop community was located in Virginia just miles from the Alexandria safe zone. However, in 2023, it was abandoned due to being destroyed and the survivors were unable to bring it back to its former self.

Now, the new colony is located around the New Jersey/New York area although it has not been verified yet exactly where they are. In the first episode of The Walking Dead: Dead City, there’s a scene of Maggie driving past a sign for the town of New Babylon, which is around 30 miles from Manhattan.

You can continue to watch The Walking Dead: Dead City to see more of what the new Hilltop colony looks like and to learn more about how they have rebuilt the community. New episodes air on AMC+ on Thursdays before airing Sundays on AMC.
