School Spirits has been greenlit for a season 2 which, of course, has fans of the Paramount+ murder mystery abuzz with the direction the plot will go in next. At the end of the season, we found out disturbing news about Mr. Martin and Janet which led to a reveal about Maddie’s “death” that turned the plot upside down in the most wonderful way.

With the teen drama being a cross between a whodunit and an examination of the afterlife, fans can expect that some characters won’t be back for the second season because their stories have run their course. Who won’t be returning for season 2 based on what happened in season 1’s storylines? Here’s what we know!

Will Dawn be in School Spirits season 2?

It’s highly unlikely that we’ll see Dawn (RaeAnne Boon) in the second season. She’s the sole ghost at Split River High who passed over to the other side. While Mr. Martin had said that Janet did so, it became obvious upon Dawn’s crossing that that couldn’t possibly be true because there had been no indication that Janet had crossed. She simply disappeared. When Dawn passed over, the lights went haywire, denoting that a significant change had occurred. Wally, Rhonda, and Charley noted that didn’t happen when Janet was said to have left their plane of existence.

Will Mr. Anderson be in School Spirits season 2?

The Split River High English teacher got caught stealing money from the school so, unless there’s a revenge plot planned for him, Mr. Anderson (Patrick Gilmore) isn’t likely to return. He was bested when he tried to pin Maddie’s disappearance on Simon in order to deflect and cover his decision to take the money the high school’s boosters raised for new band uniforms for himself. Not to mention when Claire found out what he did, she blackmailed him into giving her passing grades on her essays. It’s a wrap for his career as an educator and his time at the school.

Will Mr. Figueroa be in School Spirits season 2?

While his presence on the show is less definitively done like Dawn and Mr. Anderson, Mr. Figueroa (Andres Soto) was Charley’s high school love and the teen ghost got closure for how their relationship ended back in the ’90s. Therefore, Mr. Figueroa’s story on the series seems to be at an end. Though it’s possible he could make an appearance, it’s hard to see where he’d fit into the plot now that Charley isn’t carrying guilt for his past actions thanks to the letter he wrote to him apologizing for what happened all those years ago.
