Spooky season isn’t right around the corner and the weather isn’t even threatening to break with a breeze cool enough to make you shiver but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be getting your Halloween thrills and chills film list together. One addition you should consider making is Five Nights at Freddy‘s.

The horror movie, which is sure to be chock full of jump scares given the source material, stars Josh Hutcherson as a security guard whose job it is to look after the eponymous rundown kids playzone a la Chucky Cheese. If you’ve ever been freaked out by the animatronic singing and dancing figures that used to be all the rage in the ’80s and ’90s, be prepared to get the shivers all over again as these characters come to life.

The film will premiere in time for Halloween with a theatrical release on Friday, Oct. 27.

Viewers can choose to watch the movie in theaters or stream it on Peacock as it’ll have a simultaneous release on the big screen and the small screen on Oct. 27.

What is Five Nights at Freddy’s about?

"The movie follows a troubled security guard as he begins watching over Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza. While spending his first night on the job, he realizes the night shift at Freddy’s won’t be so easy to make it through. Upping the ante is the fact that his young sister, who he brings with him to work each night, seems to be the target of a coterie of possessed animatronic animals."

Is Five Nights at Freddy’s based on a book?

While there are books in the franchise, the movie is actually based on the popular video game of the same name which was created by Scott Cawthon and released in 2014.

Is CoryxKenshin in Five Nights at Freddy’s?

Yes! According to the Los Angeles Times, the popular videogame Youtuber, whose name is Cory Williams, does make a cameo in the film as a taxi driver. In his reaction to the trailer, which shows a look at his cameo, Williams had the following to say according to the outlet:

"I’m not an actor, guys. … I just got to be a part of something really cool…This is so cool though, because y’all gotta understand, I’m just a nerd, bro, I’m just a gamer — I see myself as the most regular dude of all time. So just seeing this, I’m so happy, I’m so happy."

Is Markiplier in Five Nights at Freddy’s?

It doesn’t look like he’ll be featured in the film as he’s not credited as being a part of the cast.

Are the Five Nights at Freddy’s characters CGI in the movie?

No. They aren’t computer generated. According to Deadline, the animatronic characters were made by Jim Henson’s Creature Shop.

An age rating hasn’t been announced for the film yet, however, according to Apple’s App Store Preview, the game the movie is based on is rated 12+ for jump scares and frightening topics like murder and being possessed. The game isn’t bloody, gory, or violent, but it can be intense and terrifying. It’s likely that the movie will follow in the same vein and be rated PG-13.
