Happy Friday to all of you, I hope you had a wonderful short week! Below, we share the best new weekend movies to watch in theaters and available on streaming services that you won’t want to miss.

If you are a fan of stand-up comedy like I am, and I consider those more in line with being “movies” than TV shows, check out two of them that dropped this week. First, Tom Segura’s latest Sledgehammer dropped on Netflix and is hands down one of the best of the year. The other is over on Peacock with Kevin Hart returning to the stage with Reality Check.

Weekend movies to watch (and stream) today

  • Joy Ride, In Theaters
  • Insidious: The Red Door, In Theaters
  • Biosphere, Limited Release Theaters
  • The Out-Laws, Netflix
  • Los Iniciados, Prime Video

A brand new comedy from Lionsgate is hitting theaters with Joy Ride. The film follows Audrey, whose trip to Asia goes south, so she enlists her childhood and college friends to help get things back on track. It stars Ashley Park, Stephanie Hsu, and Sherry Cola, with Adele Lim in the director’s chair. I’ve heard nothing but great things about this film and can’t wait to see it myself.

Patrick Wilson is making his directorial debut with the upcoming fifth installment of the Insidious franchise with Insidious: The Red Door. It’s set ten years after the second film’s ending, which sees Josh Lambert heading to the easy-to-drop his son, Dalton, off at Idyllic, an Ivy League university. Things quickly go bad when a demon from his past returns to haunt them both. This franchise has been hit and miss, but with Wilson behind the director’s chair, I am excited to see what he does with the film.
