Created by Randy Huggins and produced by 50 Cent, among others, the show follows real-life crime organization Black Mafia Family and the brothers who started it all, Big Meech and Southwest T, in ’80s and ’90s Detroit, Michigan.

Throughout the series, we learn about the rise and fall of the Flenory brothers and their drug empire. Now two seasons down, fans are hungry for more episodes. And the good news is BMF season 3 is on the way!

BMF premiered on Starz in Sept. 2021 and features a talented ensemble of actors including seasoned stars like Mo’Nique, Russell Hornsby, La La Anthony, Snoop Dogg, Wood Harris, and more. The series has been applauded for its compelling storylines which combine elements of crime and family dynamics. The captivating portrayal of the Black Mafia Family will have you hooked from the first episode.

Given the show’s continued popularity and viewership numbers, it should come as no surprise we’re getting another season. Here’s everything we know about BMF season 3 so far!

BMF season 3 is definitely happening

It didn’t take long for Starz to give the crime drama the green light for another installment. BMF season 3 was officially announced in Jan. 2023, just two days ahead of the release of the third episode of season 2. The president of original programming at Starz released a statement along with the renewal, saying that the “fans have passionately responded to this show more than ever before.”

Demetrius Flenory Jr., who plays Meech in BMF, was quick to share the renewal news with his Instagram followers, reposting an article from Deadline to his page, while patriarch Charles Fenroy actor Russell Hornsby shared the news to his Instagram with the caption: “BIG NEWS #BMF Season 3 is coming!”

Fans were quick to share their excitement over the season 3 announcement in their comments sections.

BMF season 3 release date

We come bearing great news for fans, because BMF season 3 has a release date! As reported in late August, the next installment of the Starz series will premiere on Friday, March 1, 2024. Along with this news, the network also shared a teaser for their upcoming slate of shows, which includes a first look at BMF season 3. Check it out:

BMF season 3 has wrapped filming

And not only has BMF been renewed, but we’ve heard they’ve completed filming for the new season as well! As reported by Hot New Hip Hop, DJ Akademiks reposted a video originally shared by Flenory Jr. in late June 2023, in which the actor says he’s completed filming: “We just completed season 3, baby!” This is great news, considering the ongoing WGA strike could’ve delayed season 3. But now that we know filming is done, the team should hopefully have no problem with post-production.

BMF season 3 cast

Most of the cast of BMF is expected to return for the third season, which includes but is not limited to:

  • Demetrius Flenory Jr. as Demetrius “Meech” Flenory
  • Da’Vinchi as Terry “Southwest T” Flenory
  • Russell Hornsby as Charles Flenory
  • Michole Briana White as Lucille Flenory
  • Myles Truitt as B-Mickie
  • La La Anthony as Markaisha Taylor

Additionally, TV Line reported some exciting new cast members for season 3, including Tauheed K. Epps (a.k.a. 2 Chainz) and Shaffer Chimere Smith (a.k.a. Ne-Yo).

According to Starz, 2 Chainz will play a character named Stacks, “an Atlanta-born and bred distributor whose wisdom and stature command respect wherever he goes,” and Ne-Yo will portray someone named Rodney “Greeny” Green, “a local Atlanta player who’s all about making the bag. Filled with swagger and an entrepreneurial spirit, there’s more than meets the eye to Greeny.”

At this time, we’re not sure if Eric Kofi-Abrefa will reprise his role as Lamar in BMF season 3 considering the fate of his character is now up in the air. In an interview with Variety, showrunner Heather Zuhlke remained tight-lipped on whether or not he’ll be back: “That’s definitely a spoiler that I don’t want to speak to.”

Is Kash Doll (Monique) in BMF season 3?

Unfortunately, we aren’t expecting Kash Doll to reprise her role as Monique, Meech’s on-and-off girlfriend and baby mama, in season 3. In case you missed it, the character attempts to carry out a plan to kill Lamar in the ninth episode of season 2, but he ends up catching on and chokes her to death. BMF fans were shocked to see her go, and it looks like Kash Doll was upset as well.

“Y’all my girl Monique gone…. She put up a fight though,” Kash Doll wrote on Instagram in a lengthy post caption after the episode aired.

BMF season 3 synopsis

Starz has shared the official synopsis for BMF season 3:

"Season three of BMF resumes the storyline inspired by brothers Demetrius “Big Meech” Flenory (Demetrius Flenory, Jr.) and Terry “Southwest T” Flenory (Da’Vinchi), who established one of the most infamous crime families in the country known as, Black Mafia Family. We kick off Season Three in the early ’90s when the Flenory Family has reinvented themselves. Meech has moved to Atlanta on a mission to build up the BMF empire in the south that he and Terry created in Detroit. The series continues to humanize the choices of the brothers’ business and their pursuits of the American Dream."

Heather Zuhlke also teased what fans can expect when discussing the season 2 finale in March 2023. In an interview with Variety, Zuhlke teased:

"What you’re going to see is the fallout and somatically all of our characters are in a season of reinvention across the board – Charles, Lucille, Meech, Terry, Bryant and Jin. There’s consequences to all these things. So you’re going to see all of that dramatized moving forward."

We’re expecting another gripping installment that’ll have us counting down the days until the next episodes premiere! Stay tuned for more updates on BMF season 3 here at Hidden Remote.
