Reacher season 2 release updates and everything we know

Fans have gotten a first look and an early release date for season 2 of Reacher. So when does the new season arrive, and who stars in it?

The character of Jack Reacher has been a popular one with the books of Lee Child. They center on a former military policeman who travels the country and gets into some danger. Reacher was brought to the big screen in a pair of movies, but there was controversy on the casting of Tom Cruise, who doesn’t quite match the bruising character of the books.

In 2022, Prime Video brought the character back in Reacher, with Alan Ritchson taking on the role. It was a success, and a second season was soon ordered. Now, fans have some idea when it will premiere. Here’s what we know.

What is Reacher season 2 about?

The season will be based on the 2009 Child novel Bad Luck and Trouble, which has Reacher “plunged into the heart of a conspiracy that is killing old friends.” That has our lead using his usual mix of brawn and surprising smarts to uncover who’s behind the conspiracy and dispense justice on his own terms. It’s possible the show might do some expansion on the novel and update a few bits for audiences. That can include some new characters and delving into his past more while still keeping to the spirit of the books.

Reacher season 2 cast

While Ritchson reprises his role, the supporting cast will be different. This is in line with the novels which feature a new cast in every entry. This means season 1 co-stars Willa Fitzgerald and Malcolm Goodwin won’t be returning.

Instead, the season 2 cast will include some new faces such as Robert Patrick (Peacemaker) and Serinda Swan (Coroner). There’s no word yet on their exact roles, as more of the storyline will be revealed before its premiere.

When does Reacher season 2 premiere?

Per the Prime Video “sizzle reel,” the series will return in December. It’s not detailed what the exact date that will be as release schedules are complicated by the ongoing WGA and SAG strikes occurring in Hollywood. It’s likely Amazon will announce an exact date soon, along with a trailer.

How many episodes will be in Reacher season 2?

It’s likely season 2 will have the same eight-episode count as season 1, with Prime Video prepared to up the ante in excitement. There are obviously more details to come as season 2 approaches, but fans now have a better idea when Jack continues his adventures with his hard-hitting style.
