The boys are almost back in town! The Prime Video superhero series is making its way back to the small screen sometime in 2023 for its fourth season. The release date has not been confirmed yet which means that there is a ton of speculation on who’s in and who’s out for the upcoming season.

Season 3 ended one year ago which means that we’re going to be overdue for a new season in a few months as the production is being impacted by the ongoing writers’ strike. On June 10, 2022, the streamer renewed the series for a fourth season. On August 1, 2022, it was reported that Cameron Crovetti had been promoted as a series regular. In early December 2022, Rosemarie DeWitt, Rob Benedict and Elliot Knight joined the cast in undisclosed capacities for the fourth season.

We’re seeing a ton of new additions pop up in the cast for the upcoming season and while the complete cast list of the upcoming season is not confirmed, all of the main characters from the previous three seasons will most likely be returning which includes Billy Butcher (portrayed by Karl Urban), Hughie Campbell (Jack Quaid), John Gillman/Homelander (Antony Starr), Annie January/Starlight (Annie Moriarty), Reggie Franklin / A-Train (Jessie T. Usher), Marvin T. Milk/Mother’s Milk (Laz Alonzo), Kevin Moskowitz/The Deep (Chace Crawford), Serge/Frenchie (Tomer Capone), Kimiko Miyashiro/The Female (Karen Fukuhara), and Earving/Black Noir (Nathan Mitchell).

According to Entertainment Weekly, Nathan Mitchell, who portrayed the masked Black Noir in the first three seasons before his character’s death, would come back and portray a new replacement Black Noir in a series regular role in fourth season of the series. This may lead to additional speculation about returning characters but here’s who we can suspect is probably not going to come back for the fourth season.

Is Ben aka Soldier Boy in The Boys season 4?

Jensen Ackles portrays Ben / Soldier Boy, one of series’ bigger guest stars. The character plots to take control over one of the main heros, his “son” Homelander. The rest of The Boys are able to take Soldier Boy down and get him back into confinement. Since Soldier Boy is not dead, this means there is a chance that Ackles could return but very unlikely if the storyline essentially keeps him locked away for the rest of time.

Is Maggie Shaw aka Queen Maeve in The Boys season 4?

Queen Maeve is portrayed by Dominique McElligott. She faked her own death after having her Compound V burnt out of her by Soldier Boy who was helped fromm Ashley Barrett at Vought. She saw Maeve being rescued by Mother’s Milk and Kimiko through surveillance footage and then deleted the footage. Maeve then decides that she wants to live in obscurity with her girlfriend, Elena.

Is Elena in The Boys season 4?

As mentioned above, Elena is the girlfriend of Queen Maeve. She is portrayed by Nicola Correia-Damude. It is revealed at the end of season 3, that Queen Maeve had faked her death after fighting both Homelander and then being depowered by Soldier Boy. Her and Elena want to live a regular life so we most likely will not see Elena return in the fourth season.

Is Nathan Franklin in The Boys season 4?

Nathan Franklin is A-Train’s older brother and personal trainer. He is portrayed by Christian Keyes. After A-Train kills Blue Hawk, Nate asks him if he did kill Blue Hawk and A-Train denies it but Nathan isn’t convinced and finds out the truth. It doesn’t look like Nathan will be returning in this next season unless it’s absolutely necessary.

Is Stan Edger in The Boys season 4?

The main antagonist of season three and former CEO of Vought is portrayed by Giancarlo Esposito. It’s made clear that he wants the image of Vought to change and will do so by any means but later it is revealed that Homelander has come forward as a whistleblower of crimes that Edger has committed and is forced to take a temporary leave of absence from Vought and eventually severs ties with the company after it was announced that a thorough investigation into his actions would be conducted. If Edgar is finally in deep trouble, that means we most likely will not see him in the fourth season.
