Law and Order: SVU season 25 is not coming to NBC in 2023

Law and Order: SVU has been around for a long time. Like, a really long time! The series is even the longest-running primetime U.S. live-action series in the history of television, since season 21 debuted. How amazing is that? This is such a rarity in television these days. Now we have Law and Order: SVU season 25 to look forward to, but unfortunately not in 2023.

Back in April 2023, we got the great news that the crime drama would stick around for another season. What’s next in store for our Special Victims Unit team? Well, we’d definitely like to find out! But there’s going to be a delay with the premiere of season 25.

Why isn’t Law and Order: SVU season 25 coming to NBC in 2023?

Law and Order: SVU season 25 is not coming out in 2023 due to the writers strike that began in May 2023, and now the actors strike that has followed starting in July 2023. With the show getting a renewal on April 10 and the writers strike beginning on May 2, the team probably didn’t have much time to write scripts yet. Or at least not enough that would even work for half a season. Now that the actors are striking as well, that means productions have to remain shut down with no one to write scripts or film the series.

When is Law and Order: SVU season 25 coming to NBC?

At this time, we don’t know when Law and Order: SVU season 25 is coming to NBC. Since both of the unions are still striking and we don’t know how long that will be, that means we also don’t know when work on season 25 can begin again as well. However, CBS has released a revised fall television schedule, and the network provided an update for the show.

Initially, NBC had the series scheduled to air Thursday nights in the fall 2023 schedule. While Law and Order: SVU is not coming in the fall, the broadcaster did share that its premiere date has been pushed to the midseason schedule. That means the series is slated for sometime in January-March 2024 for now.
