Another day, another video game adaptation to ogle. This time Peacock is giving us the high-octane thrills of beloved video game series Twisted Metal, where players can bash and blow-up other vehicles in an arena to be the last car standing in competition. The winner of said competition gets to meet the organizer and is granted one wish, regardless of its price or impossibility.

Known for its dark humor and twisted characters, Twisted Metal the video game has been deemed a classic since it was first released in 1995. An adaptation of the series has never gotten off the ground until now, and it looks like it’s trying to stay true to the video game in that there are going to be a lot of cars with mighty fun weapons attached to them. Partly developed by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, who have both written for the Deadpool films, the series will retain the wicked dark sense of humor and crazy action that one would expect from anything with the name Twisted Metal attached to it.

What is Twisted Metal the series about?

The show stars Anthony Mackie as the talkative but amnestic John Doe, who drives his souped up car across the post-apocalyptic United States to make deliveries. In his travels he picks up a woman named Quiet, played by Stephanie Beatriz, who is looking to exact revenge on those that killed her brother.

He is tasked by the leader of New San Francisco to pick up a mysterious package in Chicago and bring it back, but he has to face crazy odds and crazier inhabitants of the post apocalyptic world to try and stay alive. One of which, Sweet Tooth, is an icon of the video game series – a giant, muscle bound clown who drives an ice cream truck and wreaks havoc everywhere he goes. If John doe completes the task and survives, he is promised a better life and permanent residence in New San Francisco.

Will Twisted Metal get a second season on Peacock?

The show premiered on Peacock on July 27th, and was released in full. We are still awaiting word on if it will be successful enough to warrant a second season, but many are speculating that it could be likely. Since video game adaptations are so hot right now, it’d be wonderful for twisted metal to get its foot in the door and have some staying power by being greenlit for a second season.

It has a built in fanbase and star Anthony Mackie is red hot, soon to take up the mantle of Captain America in Marvel’s next entry. But for now, we don’t have any confirmation that it will get a second season. Hopefully viewers will want to see more of John Doe’s race across the barren United States with sweet tooth on his tail, but we’ll have to wait and see if it indeed will be renewed for that coveted second season.

You can catch the first season streaming in full on Peacock.
