The God of Mischief is back for another season of wild action. Marvel has released the first full trailer for Loki season 2, which has the redeeming villain thrust on a wild new adventure.

It appeared the saga of Loki (Tom Hiddleston) had come to an end when Thanos killed him in Avengers: Infinity War. However, in Avengers: Endgame, the “time heist” the Avengers made to try and save reality led to an alternate timeline where a version of Loki from the first Avengers movie managed to escape.

This Loki was captured by the Time Variance Authority, a powerful bureaucracy that oversees time. That includes “pruning” timelines they feel violate “the sacred timeline,” sending them to a darker dimension. Loki is soon working with Mobius (Owen Wilson) to hunt anomalies in time. That had Loki clashing with a female version of himself called Sylvia (Sophia De Martino) in a wild adventure that had them facing the TVA’s bosses, the Timemasters.

So before getting into the news on season 2, here’s a quick look at the ending of season 1 with obvious SPOILERS for the finale.

Loki season 1 ending explained

The season 1 finale had Loki and Sylvie traveling into the distant future to meet the true boss of the TVA: A variation of the time-traveling despot Kang (Jonathan Majors). Calling himself He Who Remains, this Kang explained he had ended a multiverse war of his more ruthless variants and created the TVA to maintain this peace. He warned that ending him would unleash chaos and wanted Loki and Sylvie to take over the TVA.

Despite Loki’s pleas, Sylvie ended up stabbing Kang, thus creating a brand new multiverse the TVA couldn’t prune. Loki was sent back to the TVA, trying to warn Mobius of this, only to realize Mobius had no idea who he was. Loki then saw a statue of the Timemasters (literally puppets for Kang) was now replaced by a statue of Kang, showing the timeline had changed.

Will Jonathan Majors be in Loki season 2?

Loki made a big deal of the debut of Jonathan Majors as Kang, who is meant to be the new big bad of the MCU. That was built more in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and Kang was to be the payoff for Phase 5 with Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.

However, Majors has been at the center of a firestorm of controversy as he was arrested on accusations of domestic violence against his girlfriend in March. While the actor has denied the charges, it’s led to bad press, with many speaking on his harmful behavior in the past.

The trailer shows Majors is still in the show, but it’s unclear if his role has been cut down since things began or if Marvel may recast the part. As of now, Majors is still playing a version of Kang named Victor Timely, but it’s unsure if the shadow of the actor’s actions may overwhelm the role.

Will Sophia Di Martino be in Loki season 2?

A highlight of the first season was Sophia De Martino as Sylvie, a female variant of Loki. The two had a great banter and sparks of a romance as it oddly made sense Loki would fall for himself. The trailers show Di Martino is indeed back for season 2, on her own personal hunt, which may cause some problems between her and Loki.

Also back for season 2 is Gugu Mbatha-Raw as Ravonna, a TVA judge who learned the truth about them and is to go on her own path as well as Tara Strong as the voice of Miss Minutes, the TVA’s clock mascot. A big addition for this season is Oscar winner Ke Huy Quan as Ouroboros, a TVA scholar.
