ABC’s fall line-up is going to look very different this year. Due to the ongoing WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, production on ABC’s many hit scripted series is currently on pause and will not be able to begin in time for the shows to return this fall. As a result, ABC is going to be leaning into reality TV this fall with many of our favorite ABC shows being pushed back to 2024.

As a result of this move, we’ve got a long wait ahead of us for new seasons of some of the biggest ABC shows on air including many scripted series which have been part of the fall slate for several years now.

There will be no catching up with the 118 on 911, which is not part of the ABC family after the network saved the series following its cancelation on FOX. Classes won’t be in session at Abbott Elementary. And there’s no need to book any ORs as Grey Sloan Memorial won’t be reopening its doors anytime soon.

While we’re looking forward to new seasons of Dancing with the Stars, Bachelor in Paradise, and more reality hits, we’re definitely going to miss these seven ABC shows this fall!

Best ABC shows not coming in 2023

911 – The good news is that 911 is coming back, something that almost didn’t happen after FOX decided to cancel the show. The bad news is we’re going to have to wait until 2024 to see the show make its ABC debut due to the strike. Although we’ve had to wait until January for new seasons in the past, the idea of going without our favorite first responders until 2024 is almost as shocking as the havoc that lightning storm brought last season.

Abbott Elementary – Students might be heading back to class in September, we’re unfortunately going to have to wait until 2024 for class at Abbott Elementary to return. While ABC will be airing reruns of its Emmy-winning comedy in the fall, it’s going to be a long break without the amazing teachers at Abbott and our favorite TV principal.

Grey’s Anatomy – Here’s a fun fact for you, the 2023 TV season will be the first time since 2004 that a new season of Grey’s Anatomy will not be part of ABC’s fall lineup. Saying this out loud feels absolutely criminal as it’s impossible to think of the fall season without Grey’s Anatomy and it breaks our hearts to know that the show’s 20th season might be one of its shortest seasons yet. Fortunately, we know all of our favorite doctors will be scrubbing back in when ABC reopens the doors to Grey Sloan Memorial and we’ll be counting down those days. After all, we’re anxious to see what’s next for the new intern class, what the future holds for Jo and Link now that they’ve finally embraced their feelings for one another, and to see if Teddy pulls through!

Not Dead Yet – There is nothing more killer to a young show’s momentum than an extended break, but we’re hoping that won’t be the case with ABC’s breakout comedy of the 2022-23 season: Not Dead Yet. The series, ironically, brought life back into ABC’s struggling comedy block proving to be a standout hit alongside ABC’s top comedy, Abbott Elementary. We can’t wait to see what hijinks ensure when the show returns next year and are counting down the days until the series returns!

The Rookie – Go figure the year The Rookie airs one of its most ambitious season finales, we have to wait extra long to get some resolution and find out what will happen next. As season 5 came to a close, the show introduced a mysterious new villain threatening the LAPD and also left the life of Aaron hanging in the balance following his attack that kicked off the new mystery expected to be explored in season 6. The good news is we know another season is coming and are sure to get answers at the top of the season. The bad news is we’ll have to wait until 2024 to get those answers.

Station 19 – When it comes to cliffhangers, no one does them better than the team at Shondaland. Station 19 season ended its sixth season with yet another jaw-dropping cliffhanger that has left fans talking all summer long. The hope was that we would finally learn whether Jack survived the injuries he sustained at the Firefighters Ball floor collapse. Instead, we’re going to have to wait until 2024 to know for certain whether Jack will pull through or succumb to his injuries.

Will Trent – Following its breakout first season, there has been a lot of excitement about what the next season of Will Trent might bring. Unfortunately, we’ll be waiting until 2024 to find out as ABC’s sleeper hit of the 2022-23 season is among the many shows being delayed until 2024. While we might have gotten some major answers and resolution to season 1’s biggest questions, there is still a lot to unpack with these characters and we’re so looking forward to doing so when Will Trent season 2 arrives in 2024!
