Unfortunately, we have surprising news to share with FBI: Most Wanted fans. Alexa Davalos won’t be returning for the show’s upcoming fifth season. As many know, the series has been delayed due to the writers and actors strikes that have ground the entertainment industry to a halt in the U.S. and has had a widespread global impact as well.

No scripts have been written for season 5 and, with no end in sight for the strikes, it’s impossible to know when this could all draw to a close. But the freeze on production hasn’t stopped a casting decision to be made in regarding Davalos. Here’s what we know.

Why is Alexa Davalos leaving FBI: Most Wanted?

While Davalos’ character, Kristin Gaines, wasn’t in peril at the end of season 4 finale, she’s still being written out. Deadline reports that the decision was made months ago. According to their sources, Davalos was told by a producer on set that she wouldn’t be coming back for season 5. The conversation happened after she filmed her last scene of season 4 and was described as “amicable” as was her departure.

A reason wasn’t given for why Davalos was informed her character’s journey had reached its end. There’s also no word on how Gaines will be written out of the show when the fifth season premieres or if Davalos will be welcomed back to wrap up her arc. This is disappointing news for fans who were given no indication that Gaines’ final scene of last season could be the last she’s seen in the show’s universe.

Davalos’ departure is yet another loss for FBI: Most Wanted which has already had two major cast exits in its run with Julian McMahon and Kellan Lutz’s leaving the series in season 3. In fact, Davalos came into the show that season, replacing Lutz’s character Kenny Crosby on the team.
