Love in Taipei, the latest young adult movie to land on Paramount+, takes the audience on a coming-of-age adventure with its lead, Ever. She’s 21 years old with a future ahead of her that’s centered on going into medicine. However, her mind is on attending a dance program that she’s determined to get into not medical school.

The only reason Ever is at the collegiate summer program in Taipei nicknamed Loveboat is because it’ll look good on her transcripts. But what she doesn’t expect is for the cultural program to actually teach her a lot about life and how she wants to live it. While there she also develops romantic feelings for two young men–Rick Woo and Xavier Yeh–whose different perspectives on the future have her questioning her own.

Who does Ever end up with and what does she decide about the path she’s going to take? Here’s what we know!

Do Ever and Rick end up together in Love in Taipei?

Yes! The two do have a romance in the movie. However, it’s short-lived. Initially, after Ever gets to know Rick as a person outside of the Boy Wonder she imagined him to be, the pair hit it off. They’re able to bond over the pressure they feel to fulfill the life plans that their parents expect them to adhere to. But while Ever is beginning to come into her own and forge a path forward for herself that doesn’t include going to medical school, Rick isn’t in the same place.

The two have a falling out after Ever attends the party Rick’s aunt is throwing and he makes her life out to be something that it’s not. He knew that her father had to give up his medical practice when they moved to the States and now works as a pharmacist, but he presented her family history as if that wasn’t the case. He also said that she’s headed to med school when she’d already shared with him that she’s applying to a dance program.

Deciding that she didn’t want to curate her life to fit his family’s standards, Ever and Rick parted ways amicably once he told her that he and his cousin Sophie were leaving Loveboat at the behest of their parents due to the typhoon. The two did reunite at the Loveboat Street Festival that Ever organized, but they didn’t rekindle their romance. They will, however, keep in touch.

Do Ever and Xavier end up together in Love in Taipei?

Yes! But their romance doesn’t really get off the ground until the end. While it’s undeniable that Ever and Xavier have chemistry, her focus for much of the movie is on her relationship with Rick. It’s not until the night of the party that the spark between them is acknowledged. Xavier left because he and Sophie also had a falling out because he wouldn’t pretend to have a closer relationship to his father than he does (the father-son pair don’t see eye-to-eye at all).

That night, Ever found out that Xavier was the one who drew her and slipped his artwork under her door. They also shared a kiss which caught her off-guard. Since she and Rick still needed to have a conversation about their relationship, Ever didn’t address what happened and instead ran back to campus. It wasn’t until she and Xavier were helping with typhoon clean-up that she spoke on how she handled things.

Still, the two focused on putting together the street festival so their romance was in limbo. Then, after her performance and one last talk with Rick, Ever found Xavier. The two danced and she kissed him, explaining that she hadn’t gotten too far into what she wants beyond that and he told her it was a great start.

Does Ever get into the dance program?

Unfortunately, no. However, the rejection makes her realize that she’s actually relieved that she didn’t get in. She was using the idea of being accepted into the program as a means of showing her parents that she can do something other than attend medical school.

Does Ever go to medical school?

No. She doesn’t know what she wants to do with her life, but she does know that med school isn’t in her plans. Ever tells her parents this when they come to the street festival she put on to help her aunt and the artists featured in her aunt’s gallery.
