Disney has been on the live-action reboot train for years now, turning out some incredible live-action adaptations of its beloved animated classics. The trend shows no signs of slowing down with a handful of live-action remakes in the works including one few fans thought Disney would be bold enough to add to the slate: Hercules!
After adapting Aladdin, Guy Ritchie has set his sights on the beloved animated classic inspired by Greek mythology. While plot details are scarce at the moment, what we do know is that Disney will be looking to recapture the magic of the original animated movie.
Of course, the magic starts with the film’s central characters: Hercules and Megara. So it goes without saying that finding the perfect Herc and Meg will be key for the movie and is at the top of Disney’s to-do list.
While the ongoing strikes have delayed Disney’s ability to make progress in the production of the movie, it seems the studio has set it sights on two incredible actors to take on the title roles in the film!
Who is playing Hercules in the live-action movie?
Due to the ongoing WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, Disney has not announced who will be playing Hercules in its upcoming live-action movie; however, it seems they might be narrowing in on a dream choice for the role! According to prominent insider My Time To Shine, Disney is eyeing Taron Egerton to play the title role of Hercules in the film.
Honestly, Egerton would be perfect as Herc! Not only could he totally pull off the physicality needed for the role, but he also has an amazing singing voice which is a must for the movie. He also has the charisma and likability that is needed to play a character such as Herc!
Who is playing Meg in the live-action Hercules movie?
Although Disney has not yet confirmed who will be playing Meg, it’s being reported that the frontrunner for the role is singer and actress Ariana Grande.
Ironically, Grande is an actress whose name has been tossed out often by fans when dream casting the film. Fan buzz about Grande being perfect for the role began back in 2020 when she performed “I Won’t Say (I’m in Love)” during ABC’s Disney Family Singalong special and brought down the house with her stunning performance. It doesn’t hurt that she shares an incredible likeness to the animated version of Meg from the film.
Of course, we’ll have to wait until after the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes to know for certain whether Disney does indeed cast Taron Egerton and Ariana Grande for its upcoming live-action Hercules movie. However, it’s quite promising that the pair seem to be on Disney’s radar!
And My Time To Shine has a pretty solid track record for breaking casting news long before the studios break them. So the odds of the rumor coming to fruition seems promising.
