Frasier has re-entered the building. Literally! Get ready for the ’90 and 2000s sitcom to return very soon. What details do we know about the reboot?

The original series ran for 11 seasons from Sept. 16 1993 to May 13, 2004. It’s a direct spin-off of Cheers and continued the story of psychiatrist Fraiser Crane who goes back to his hometown in Seattle to become a radio show host.

Now after 19 years, we’re getting a reboot. Here’s everything we know about it ahead of its release!

Is Frasier coming back in 2023? (Reboot release date)

Yes, the reboot is coming in 2023 and the reboot is happening! Plans to revive the series was announced back in February 2021, and now we have a release date. Frasier premieres Thursday, Oct. 12, 2023 with the first two episodes. Going forward one new episode will be released weekly.

There are a total of 10 episodes in Frasier. The first two will debut on premiere day. Then after that, one new installment will stream weekly Thursdays on Paramount+. If you don’t have a subscription to the streaming service, it costs $5.99/month with ads or $11.99/month without ads. The finale is scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 7, 2023. We shared the episode titles we know of so far below:

  • Episode 1, “The Good Father”
  • Episode 2, “Moving In”

Also to celebrate the revival of the popular sitcom, CBS will air the first two episodes back-to-back on Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2023 starting at 9:30 p.m. ET. No other episodes will be broadcast on television though. So as mentioned above, the 10-episode season will premiere with the first two installments, followed by one new episode weekly on Paramount+. We shared a breakdown of the episode release schedule below:

  • Episode 1 – Oct. 12
  • Episode 2 – Oct. 12
  • Episode 3 – Oct. 19
  • Episode 4 – Oct. 26
  • Episode 5 – Nov. 2
  • Episode 6 – Nov. 9
  • Episode 7 – Nov. 16
  • Episode 8 – Nov. 23
  • Episode 9 – Nov. 30
  • Episode 10 – Dec. 7

The new sitcom was shot in front of a live studio audience at Paramount Studios in Los Angeles, California. This is the same as the original show, which was also filmed in front of a live studio audience. All 11 seasons of the 1993 project are streaming on both Paramount+ and Hulu. And all 11 seasons of Cheers are streaming on Paramount+. Only the first four are available to watch on Hulu.

Frasier synopsis (What is Frasier about?)

The new series is of course centered around the iconic titular character. Now, we’re going to see the character in the “next chapter of his life,” per the synopsis. He decides to make his way back to Boston, Massachusetts where he’ll face “new challenges” and relationships, as well as trying to fulfill an “old dream or two.”

We have the first-look teaser trailer, which reveals the classic theme song associated with the original series, “Tossed Salads & Scrambled Eggs.” Check out the video below:

On Sept. 14, 2023, Paramount+ released the official trailer for the series. It features a seemingly complicated relationship with his son Freddy and how the two will have to figure out their bond with the titular character moving back home. Check out the video below:

Cast: Which original cast members are coming back?

Kelsey Grammer is back as the titular character, with Peri Gilpin as his close friend and co-worker Roz Doyle and Bebe Neuwirth as his ex-wife Lilith Sternin also making a return for at least one episode each, per TVLine. Otherwise the rest of the cast includes newcomers. We shared the cast list below:

Returning cast members:

  • Kelsey Grammer as Frasier Crane
  • Peri Gilpin as Roz Doyle
  • Bebe Neuwirth as Lilith Sternin

New cast members:

  • Jack Cutmore-Scott as Freddy, Frasier and Lilith’s son
  • Anders Keith as David, the main character’s nephew
  • Nicholas Lyndhurst as Alan, the main character’s old college friend and now professor
  • Toks Olagundoye as Olivia, Alan’s colleague and head of the university’s psychology department
  • Jess Salgueiro as Eve, Freddy’s roommate

Is Roz coming back to Frasier?

Yes, Roz is coming back to the show! At least for one episode, not as a main cast member though. Still, it will definitely be nice to see her. I wonder what the radio station producer is up to now. We can’t wait to find out!

David Hyde Pierce, who played the titular character’s brother Niles, seems to have turned down the opportunity to come back, per TVLine. He shared the following statement with the news outlet:

"That whole time of my life is deeply important to me. And I would never disrespect that in such a way as to say just offhandedly, ‘Oh, no, thanks. I’m not going to do that again.’ It’s too valuable to me. But by the same token, because it’s so valuable to me, I also wouldn’t do it just to do it. And I believe it can be done without me, too — finding new stories to tell, in the same way that Frasier did after Cheers."
