Premiering in 2022, Our Flag Means Death is loosely based on the true story of Stede Bonnet, known as “The Gentleman Pirate.” After a life as a wealthy landowner, Bonnet turned to piracy. The series portrays it as a comedy with Bonnet completely out of his depth as a pirate and surrounded by a bumbling crew.

The show has won wide praise for its quirky humor and the daring idea of Bonnet and Edward Teach, aka Blackbeard (Taika Waititi), having a relationship. The 10-episode first season wrapped well, and work began on Season 2. So when does it come out?

When does Our Flag Means Death season 2 premiere?

Season 2 will premiere Thursday, Oct. 5 on Max with its first three episodes. Two new episodes will release weekly.

There will be a total of eight episodes in the season.

The finale will be available to stream on Oct. 26.

Who stars in Our Flag Means Death season 2?

It appears almost all of the season 1 cast will be back for this year. That includes Rhys Darby as Bonnet, Waititi as Teach, Con O’Neill as Izzy and the rest. However, Guz Khan, who played Blackbeard’s crewmember Ivan, confirmed he wouldn’t be back for season 2. It’s also likely some big-name comedy stars will make cameos as the figures the pirates run into.

What will Our Flags Mean Death season 2 be about?

The first season finale had some wild turns ending with the heartbroken Stede’s return to his family, so he embraced his dark persona of Blackbeard. However, Stede closed out that chapter and was last seen rowing to an island to rescue his stranded crew. The second season should focus on the lovers reuniting amid Bonnet’s crew trying to get back into the pirate game and some escapades along the way.

"OUR FLAG MEANS DEATH is based (very) loosely on the true adventures of 18th century would-be pirate Stede Bonnet (Rhys Darby). After trading the seemingly charmed life of a gentleman for one of a swashbuckling buccaneer, Stede became captain of the pirate ship Revenge. Struggling to earn the respect of his potentially mutinous crew, Stede’s fortunes changed after a fateful run-in with the infamous Captain Blackbeard (Taika Waititi). To their surprise, the wildly different Stede and Blackbeard found more than friendship on the high seas…they found love. Now, they have to survive it."
