Updated: Aug. 30, 2023 – Bachelor Nation, get ready! The Golden Bachelor is almost here. The spin-off series, which has been in development since 2020, got the green light and now we’ll be meeting a new Bachelor who is in his golden years. Yes, our leading man this go around will be in his 70s and the ladies vying for his heart will also be on the other side of life, wizened by experience, love, loss, and everything that makes living beautiful, heartbreaking, and worth the ride.
As we move closer to the show’s debut, information is continuing to stream in, giving us the opportunity to learn what can be expected from this spin-off including background on the bachelor. Here’s everything we know so far.

The series debuts Thursday, Sept. 28 at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
The Golden Bachelor episode runtime
For this dating show, you’ll be blocking out an hour of your time. The program runs for 60 minutes before Bachelor in Paradise starts at 9 p.m. ET. Yes, that does mean Thursdays on ABC are now Bachelor Thursdays with three hours of romance, drama, and more each week.
What is The Golden Bachelor?
The official synopsis:
"On this all-new unscripted series, one hopeless romantic is given a second chance at love in the search for a partner with whom to share the sunset years of life. The women arriving at the mansion have a lifetime of experience, living through love, loss and laughter, hoping for a spark that ignites a future full of endless possibilities. In the end, will our Golden man turn the page to start a new chapter with the woman of his dreams?"
Who is The Golden Bachelor?
Bachelor Nation’s latest leading man is Gerry [pronounced GAIR-ee] Turner. He’s a 72 year old retired restaurateur from Indiana. Gerry is a family man who dotes on his daughters, Angie and Jenny, and his granddaughters, Charlee and Payton. The bachelor spends his time hosting barbecues, cheering on Chicago’s sports teams, playing pickelball, riding four-wheelers, and hanging out with his friends and family at local eateries and haunts.
Gerry was blessed to find love early on in life. He married his high school sweetheart, Toni, in 1974 and the two had 43 years together before she fell ill and passed in 2017. It’s been six years since his wife’s passing and, with the support of his family, Gerry is ready to find love again.
TVLine reports the bachelor had the following to say about Toni and his decision to be on the show:
"“She got robbed,” Turner said through tears. “Every day that goes by, that’s the thought that I have… We always told each other that when one of us goes, we want the other one to be happy.”"

When was The Golden Bachelor filmed?
Filming began in August as denoted by host Jesse Palmer’s Instagram post with Gerry Turner on night one of his season.
How many episodes does The Golden Bachelor have?
An official episode count has not been released. However, the show is a spin-off of The Bachelor which typically runs for 10 weeks, shown through a 10 episode season run. This series will likely have a similar amount of episodes. We’ll update this section when more news comes in.
