There’s no way around it, Fall TV is going to look quite different this year. Due to the ongoing writers and actors strikes, production on the shows that typically premiere in the fall has not yet begun. This has resulted in the broadcast networks having to shift things around to delay the returns of the shows that typically make up its fall lineup.

Sure, we’ll have some of our returning reality series back and there will be scripted shows to enjoy including shows that were able to film episodes before the strikes began and imports from streaming services. However, we won’t be seeing the shows that typically return in the fall making their way back to the screen in September or October.

While CBS has some great shows coming in the fall, many of our favorite CBS shows are being held for 2024 including NCIS and these eight amazing series!

Best CBS shows not coming in 2023

NCIS –  CBS might have some of its long-running reality series back for the fall, but for the first time in 20 years, the network will not be bringing fans a new season of NCIS in the fall. It’s going to be strange not getting a new season of the series in the fall as NCIS has been a staple on the network since it debuted back in 2003, but at least we’ll be getting NCIS reruns to help bridge the gap as we wait for season 21 to arrive in 2024.

Blue Bloods – Friday nights just aren’t quite the same without the Reagan family which is why it’s hard to imagine having to wait until 2024 for new episodes of Blue Bloods. Yes, we’ll still be getting reruns across the fall which will at least give us the chance to enjoy some time with the first family of New York, but we’ll be feeling quite blue having to get through the fall without Friday night’s top-rated drama.

Young Sheldon – It’s almost unreal to think of the fall season beginning without broadcast’s No. 1 comedy, but alas Young Sheldon is among the many CBS shows that will not be coming back in the fall. Add in rumors that suggest the show’s upcoming season could be its last and we’re starting to feel a bit robbed at the prospect of the show wrapping its run with a delayed and potentially shortened season.

Fire Country – After becoming last fall’s most-watched new series, it’s a shame that we’re now going to have to wait until 2024 to see what happens next when Fire Country season 2 arrives. Not only was the show’s first season a ratings hit, but it also gave us one of the season’s most shocking cliffhangers with Bode heading back to jail. So the fact that we now have to wait even longer to find out what happens next feels criminal!

Ghosts –  While most comedies tend to play it safe and opt out of season-ending cliffhangers, Ghosts has been bold in taking major swings. Season 2 left us wondering who got sucked off and we hoped to learn this answer in the fall. Instead, we’re going to have to wait until 2024 to find out as Ghosts is among the many amazing CBS shows that will not be coming back in the fall. While we can look forward to enjoying the UK series that inspired the series in the fall, we’re going to miss seeing Sam, Jay, and all of our favorite ghosts this fall.

FBI: International – Tuesday nights this fall won’t quite be the same without new episodes of FBI coming our way as the franchise is, indeed, also affected by the strikes. As a result, we’re going to have to wait until 2024 for new episodes of FBI and its sister series. While FBI and FBI: Most Wanted might not have ended with a major cliffhanger, FBI: International ended with an explosive finale that left the lives of literally every member of the team hanging in the balance. We’re eager to see who will or will not survive the season-ending bombing, but we’re definitely going to miss the series this fall.

SWAT – It’s been quite a roller coaster ride for SWAT fans in recent months. Fans assumed the show would be a lock for renewal. Then CBS decided to cancel the show unexpectedly. Luckily, the fans were not quiet in sharing their displeasure with the decision and CBS decided to order a 13-episode final season as a way to give the show a proper end. While the good news is that another season is coming our way, the bad news is that the final season won’t be coming until 2024.

So Help Me Todd – CBS had quite a successful streak last season with its freshman entries quickly winning over audiences. Among last season’s amazing new series was So Help Me Todd, a witty legal drama starring the amazing Marcia Gay Harden and Skylar Astin. The series is unlike anything currently on the airwaves, putting a fun and fresh spin on the legal drama with family at the forefront in a way we haven’t seen before. We were so excited to see what the second season would bring, but sadly we’re going to have to wait until 2024 to find out as the show is among the many CBS originals not coming back in 2023 due to the ongoing strikes.
