When is Friday Night SmackDown leaving Fox? (where is it going?)

Premiering in 1999 on the old UPN network, SmackDown was WWE’s second primetime weekly show, following the long-running Monday Night RAW. The show continued on The CW until 2008, when it moved to MyNetwork. It shifted to Syfy in 2010 and then the USA Network in 2016. It’s been airing on Fox since 2019 as part of a later deal with WWE, and now it’s on the move again.
When is SmackDown leaving Fox?
Per TV Line, SmackDown will be moving to USA Network in October of 2024. It’s assumed it will remain on Friday nights. The move comes as WWE just merged with the UFC under Endeavor for a new umbrella company called TKO. This has led to some shifts as WWE is undergoing a massive wave of talent cuts.
WWE on NBC specials are coming
This isn’t the only change for WWE, as it was also announced that there will be four primetime specials for NBC. This harkens back to the late 1980s when WWE would produce the Saturday Night’s Main Event shows for the network.
The NBC partnership has continued over the years as part of Peacock was integrating the old WWE Network, which airs regular WWE programming and formerly pay-per-view events.
“NBCUniversal has been a tremendous partner of WWE for decades,” WWE President Nick Khan said in a statement. “We are excited to extend this longstanding relationship by bringing SmackDown to USA Network on Friday nights and look forward to debuting multiple WWE special events annually on NBC.”
The change won’t occur for over a year, but fans can get used to WWE SmackDown having yet another new home in 2024.
