We don’t yet have a date for when NCIS season 21 will return to CBS, but that doesn’t stop us from speculating about what we can expect to see from the characters and story in new episodes. Fan-favorite character Tim McGee, who has been in all 20 seasons of NCIS, will also be back for the new season.

McGee is played by Sean Murray, who recently spoke about the positive experience he has on set and why he loves going to work. “Things have been going well for the show and on the show, and we’ve just been having fun doing it,” Murray shared. When you love your job, why leave?

However Murray also shared that we can expect to see very different types of projects from him after the inevitable series finale in the future. “When the show eventually ends, I’ll want to do something very different, a different type of show and a very different type of character,” he said to Entertainment Weekly.

Here’s what we know about McGee’s role in NCIS season 21!

NCIS season 21: What can we expect from McGee?

Having been involved in the large undercover storyline from the season 20 finale, we can definitely expect McGee to be part of the aftermath and fallout from the team’s undercover and cybersecurity work, if that story is continued into the new season. With that arc being largely wrapped up though, it’s possible McGee and the team will have completely moved on when we see them next.

The biggest cliffhanger of the season actually lied with Torres. In the final scene last season, Torres pulls his gun on an older man who he seems to know. From the clues we’re given, it seems like this is someone from Torres’ past who has wronged him. The man swears he’s “changed”, but Torres says that he would enjoy watching the man die. We think NCIS season 21 will definitely unpack everything here when the show returns.

We can expect to see McGee continue to be a leader and asset to the team, especially when it comes to emergency cybersecurity needs and other technological work. Since this past season didn’t dive too deep into personal stories involving McGee, we do hope that NCIS season 21 focuses more on this character and gives him some more meaningful and personal stories.

Timothy McGee will appear in NCIS season 21, but the new season has been delayed because of the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes in 2023. We expect the series to return sometime in 2024. You can still watch all of your favorite past episodes, currently available to stream on Paramount+.
