After a few months of waiting, Bob’s Burgers is back for season 14. The show even came back later than normal. Of course, we know that might be in large part due to the ongoing strike with SAG-AFTRA but thankfully, the Belchers are back on our screens. Thankfully, we had 13 seasons to binge until the show came back.

Either way, we don’t have to wait any longer as the season 14 premiere of Bob’s Burgers is here and that always proves something to be happy about. We can only hope things get smoother with the strike as Bob’s Burgers continues to air this fall and winter.

If you haven’t watched the season 14 premiere of Bob’s Burgers, then there will be spoilers for “Fight at the Not Okay Chore-ral” from this point on. If you haven’t watched, then this is your spoiler warning!

What happened in the season 14 premiere of Bob’s Burgers?

The episode begins with the family eating dinner together on Friday and we find out Louise got her candy toy taken away but it gets worse. Bob and Linda announce that the kids are going to do chores and the kids try to refuse but Bob and Linda tell them they have no choice. It results in a standoff between the kids and their parents.

Bob and Linda give up so they invite the kids to their room and tell them a story. Bob starts telling them about a horse called Pepperoni but the kids take over, making the sheriffs aka Bob and Linda look bad. The story takes a turn when the townspeople aka the kids have the sheriffs kidnapped and left in the middle of nowhere.

Bob and Linda pick up the story once again with Goldoeder coming to take over the town and the sheriffs end up returning to help the townspeople. It all comes to a head when the kids, Goldoeder, and the sheriffs face off in a quick-draw contest. The first one is Bob and Louise with Louise winning it while Linda shoots Gene and Tina loses to Goldoeder.

It comes to a showdown between Louise and Linda with Linda getting upset and Linda running from the bedroom. Louise apologizes to Linda and explains why she was so upset so the two have a moment together. The story ends with everyone turning on Mr. Goldoeder and telling Big G that they’ll do things how they want while the kids end up falling asleep in Bob and Linda’s bed.

When it comes to season premieres, everyone has an idea of how it will be and it sets a precedent for the season. Bob’s Burgers has had some amazing episodes to kick off its seasons yet how does season 14 stack up? If there’s one thing I can say about season openers from the past few years, the show leans more sentiment.

“Fight at the Not Okay Chore-ral” does lean into the more sentimental category but honestly, wasn’t all that memorable of an episode. That’s not to say it’s a bad episode but it does feel like an odd one to start the season out with. I did enjoy seeing some of the characters who show up rarely such as Marshmallow and Grandma Gloria, though.

While Bob’s Burgers usually starts its seasons with a bang, this one felt like more of a sparkler so I’m hoping next week is a bit more memorable.

Bob’s Burgers airs on Sundays on Fox at 9/8c.
