How many Pet Sematary movies are there?
Author Stephen King is a known name not just in the book writing industry, but in the film industry as well since so many of his novels have been adapted into onscreen stories! The King of Horror certainly knows what he’s doing. And if you’re a horror fan like me, you know you want to devour every adaptation of his tales. One of those is Pet Sematary, which he wrote in 1983!
There’s a total of three Pet Sematary movies currently out, as well as a new film ready to make its streaming debut on Friday, Oct. 6, 2023. That’s going to bring the count up to a total of four movies! The franchise started with the production that came out at the end of the ’80s, with its sequel debuting in 1992.
Then a second film adaptation came out in 2019. So there’s Pet Sematary (1989), Pet Sematary Two, Pet Sematary (2019), and Pet Sematary: Bloodlines. The newest movie serves as a prequel to the 2019 story. We provided a breakdown of all the movies for you below:

Where to watch the Pet Sematary movies
The very first of the horror films and its sequel are both streaming on Hulu. If you want to check out the second adaptation before the new movie comes out, then you can do so on Paramount+. Each of the films features a different cast. The 1989 version stars Dale Midkiff as Louis Creed, Fred Gwynne as Jud Crandall, Denise Crosby as Rachel Creed, Miko Hughes as Gage Creed, and twins Blaze Berdahl and Beau Berdahl as Ellie Creed.
In its sequel, you can expect to see Edward Furlong as Jeff Matthews, Jason McGuire as Drew Gilbert, Anthony Edwards as Dr. Chase Matthews, Darlanne Fluegel as Renee Hallow-Matthews, Jared Rushton as Clyde Parker, Sarah Trigger as Marjorie Hargrove, Lisa Waltz as Amanda Gilbert, and Clancy Brown as Gus Gilbert.

The new movie, which will not debut in theaters and will be available to stream on Paramount+ upon its release, takes place in 1969 and centers around a young Jud Crandall, per the synopsis. The young man “dreams” of leaving his hometown, but feels a need to stay when “sinister secrets” are unearthed. Check out the official synopsis and trailer from Paramount+ below:
