Strays is now streaming on Peacock. Movie fans who missed watching the animated comedy in theaters are now able to enjoy the movie from home. The promotional posters for Strays instantly capture your attention as they feature adorable puppies. And who doesn’t love doggos?

Parents who noticed there’s a new movie about dogs that’s streaming may believe they have found the perfect movie for family night. But not so fast…

Strays (which stars Will Forte and the voices of Will Ferrell, Jamie Foxx, Isla Fisher, and Randall Park) follows Reggie, a happy pup who loves spending time with his human Doug (Forte).  Unfortunately, Doug does not feel the same way about Doug. In fact, Doug wants absolutely nothing to do with little Reggie, but the pup is as oblivious about it as they come. According to Reggie, he and Doug are best friends.

When Doug abandons Reggie in the middle of a rough neighborhood, Reggie is extremely confused and refuses to believe Doug would do that to him. Along his journey back to Doug, Reggie meets a Boston Terrier named Bug (Jamie Foxx), a stray who doesn’t believe in having owners.

Why is Strays rated R?

If the plot of the movie sounds sweet and wholesome, just check out the trailer for the harsh truth. That’s right, my friends, Strays is by no means a movie that’s appropriate for kids. It is rated R, and for good reason!

Why did Strays get an R rating? The movie is rated R for drug use, crude and sexual content, and language, including pervasive language. Parent Previews goes on to share that the movie features violence such as dogs biting humans and a man trying to kill the dogs with a bat, and in another instance, with his bare hands.

The sexual content is even more graphic. Though there is no nudity, there’s masturbation, and plenty of dogs and squirrels having sex. The source even counted the number of expletives in the movie, sharing that there are 159 sexual expletives and 74 scatological curses. Yikes! Finally (yes, there’s more), the movie shows use of drugs such as mushrooms, marijuana, and alcohol.

As you can see, this may be a movie that features pups, but it is one meant for us big kids to enjoy! If you’re going to stream this movie on Peacock, be sure to do it when the kids go to sleep!

The comedy stars the voices of Will Ferrell as Reggie, Jamie Foxx as Bug, Isla Fisher as Maggie, Randall Park as Hunter, Josh Gad as Gus, and Will Forte as Doug. Strays has a runtime of one hour and 33 minutes.
