Celebrate this Halloween 2023 with your favorite orange tabby cat in the television special Garfield’s Halloween Adventure! The animated television special is based on the popular Garfield comic strip and originally aired over 30 years ago on the CBS network on Oct. 30, 1985.

The synopsis is as follows: “Garfield’s Halloween Adventure finds the feisty feline and his pal Odie dressed as pirates out to pillage a village and return with bagsful of candy. Instead, the two get shipwrecked, then discover a haunted house inhabited by treasure-hunting pirates who’ve returned from the grave.”

Garfield’s Halloween Adventure is one of twelve Garfield television specials and the fourth to have aired between 1982 and 1991. It was well received by audiences, earning its spot as the third Garfield special to win an Emmy. Halloween Adventure earned a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Animated Program. The cast is made up of Lorenzo Music as Garfield, Thom Huge as Jon Arbuckle/Binky the Clown, and Gregg Berger as Odie/TV Announcer. The special was created and written by Garfield comic strip creator Jim Davis and directed by Phil Roman.

Since its premiere, it was often aired in the Halloween season along with another special based on a comic strip, It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown. However, by 1999, the special was not regularly broadcast and would have its final airing on CBS on Oct. 28th, 1999. This means that, unfortunately, the special will not be airing on broadcast tv anytime soon.
