Does The Morning Show really film in New York City?

The Morning Show is of course mainly focused in the newsroom, but sometimes we come out of it and see views of what seems to be New York City. After all, that’s the location where the Apple TV+ series is set. But is that where filming actually takes place?

The answer is, no. The Morning Show does not really film in New York City. I will tell you, the production team definitely had me fooled! They do a very good job at making another major city look just like the Big Apple. The Morning Show actually mostly films in Los Angeles, California. Read on below as we share some of the locations where the behind-the-scenes team sets up shop!

The spot where all the UBA magic happens is 611 Place in downtown Los Angeles, according to Screen Rant. Well, the outside of it at least. We’ll get to the interiors next. The tall building is a perfect replicate of the tall skyscrapers we all know NYC has. So what about the interiors? That’s where the majority of the show takes place.

The UBA office spaces, the newsroom, the dressing rooms, etc. are sets built at the Sony Pictures Studios in Culver City, California. But it’s not just UBA that’s filmed there. If we’re at the characters’ homes, restaurants, and more of the like, that’s most likely filmed at the Sony Pictures studio.

And while the majority of filming is done in LA, sometimes the drama has had to move operations to the place where the series actually takes place. For example in the Oct. 4, 2023 episode of The Morning Show season 3, titled “Love Island,” new character Paul Marks (Jon Hamm) and Alex (Jennifer Aniston) go to Coney Island. Well, so did the filming crew. FIlming actually took place there. This is probably due to the fact that Coney Island is “a bit difficult to replicate,” as Screen Rant shares. But to really sell it, crew has gotten exterior shots of the Big Apple and its main landmarks to use throughout the episodes.

If you were surprised this fact, I will say that I’m not. It’s actually very common for movies and shows to take place in one place in the story, but actually film in a completely different one. It’s not really known why The Morning Show production team thought it best to film in LA vs New York. But a lot of factors do come into play like studio space needed and is available at the time of shooting, perhaps actors’ preferences based on where they live, and more.
