Which kids Halloween movie is most popular in your state? (And to watch each movie)

It’s Halloween season, and whether you’re checking out the Halloween collection on your favorite streaming service or plan to check into one of the many movie marathons this month, the odds are good that you’ll be watching at least one or two Halloween movies this year.

While there are plenty to choose from, including the top horror movies of the year, Halloween tends to be a nostalgic time of the year. Some people watch their favorite Halloween movie every year. Others are getting to share the classics with their children.

Kids Halloween movies might not seem like a big deal for adults, but they absolutely are. You can tell a lot from a person based on whether their favorite Disney Halloween movie is Halloweentown or Hocus Pocus. In fact, you might even be able to tell where in the country they’re from!

USDish put together a list of the top kids Halloween movies and processed them through SEMRush and Google Trends, finding which films are searched most often in each state.

You might be surprised by some of the movies that are most popular—and which ones are only the top search in one state!

Which kids Halloween movies are most popular?

As part of their study, USDish put together a list of the top 15 family-friendly Halloween movies to work with. The list includes: The Addams Family (would any Halloween list be complete without this popular family?), Beetlejuice, and Hocus Pocus. Here are other movies you can expect to find on the list:

The source also shared some interesting facts about their data. For starters, they found that the three most popular kids Halloween movies (in the year 2023) are Ghostbusters, Scooby-Doo, and The Addams Family. The film Ghostbusters is popular in 14 states, Scooby-Doo in eight states, and The Addams Family  in seven states. Have you seen all three of these movies? If so, was it when you were as a kid or recently?

Another fun fact is that, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial is the most popular Halloween movie in the South East, even though it was filmed an set in California. The same can be said about It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown, as the movie is set in Minnesota, but it is significantly more popular on the East Coast.
