What does CBI stand for in Power Book IV: Force?
Power Book IV: Force has been a fantastic crime show for Starz. However, some might be confused at the constant mentions of CBI, so just what does that stand for?
Power began as the story of James St. Patrick, a club owner who was also Ghost, a powerful drug lord. Aiding James was his longtime friend Tommy Egan (Joseph Sikora). Despite being a hothead at times, Tommy was always loyal to Ghost all the way until Ghost met his end in Power’s last season.
This sets up Power Book IV: Force. After leaving New York, Tommy makes a stop in Chicago to check in on family before heading out west. When he stumbles onto a drug deal by some low-level crooks, Tommy sees an opportunity to build up his own empire like Ghost did. He takes over the gang and begins his rise in the Chicago crime world.
Obviously, he has issues, including the cops, DEA and the other crime gangs, notably the Flynn family. However, the biggest challenge for Tommy is the CBI, which, despite the name, is decidedly not a law enforcement agency.
What is the CBI on Power Book IV: Force?
The CBI stands for Chicago Brothers Incorporated, a powerful crew that runs itself like a business. The top leaders are brothers Diamond (Isaac Keys) and Jenard (Kris D. Lofton). Diamond had been running it before spending 15 years in prison, with Jenard giving up a promising college career to take over before Diamond was released to assert his power again.
The pair have had more than their share of issues as Tommy’s arrival has led to a shift in the dynamics of leadership. Diamond was set to let Tommy work with the CBI, which Jenard wasn’t happy about.
The brothers seemed ready to go to war with each other but decided instead to split the CBI, with each taking a loyal crew. However, the recent death of their father has encouraged the brothers to forget their differences and reconcile. Diamond let Jenard back into the CBI on the condition he clean up his drug habit, which Jenard is trying to do.
With Power Book IV: Force heading toward its season 2 finale, the stakes are raised in the war between Tommy, the CBI, and the Flynns. The war seems set to push the CBI into a bold new direction to continue its run.
Power Book IV: Force season 2 airs Fridays at 10/9c on Starz.
