Paddington 3 release updates, cast, synopsis and more

It’s good news for fans of a certain loveable bear. A release date has been set for Paddington in Peru, the latest film in the saga of the popular character with a great cast! Here’s what we know about it!

Based on the long-running children’s books by Michael Bond, 2014’s Paddington was the story of a talking bear who made his way to London. Befriended by the kindly Brown family, Paddington helps them in various escapades.

The first film was a smash hit and led to a 2017 sequel, which was even more hailed by critics and a good success. A third film was inevitable, although Paul King, who directed the first two, had to bow out due to scheduling issues and is now replaced by Dougal Wilson. The movie began production in the summer of 2023, and filming is still ongoing, with its mostly British cast exempt from the SAG strikes.

What is Paddington in Peru about?

Per Variety, the new sequel has Paddington returning to Peru to visit his beloved Aunt Lucy, now in a retirement home. The Browns accompany him as:

"“…a mystery plunges them into an unexpected journey through the Amazon rainforest and to the mountain peaks of Peru.”"

Once more, Ben Whishaw voices Paddington with Imelda Staunton as Aunt Lucy. The rest of the cast is back with Hugh Bonneville, Emily Mortimer, Madeline Harris and Samuel Joslin as the Browns.

New to this outing is Academy Award winner Olivia Colman as the Reverend Mother, with Antonio Banderas as Hunter Cabot. Rachel Zegler was to play the role of Gina Cabot but had to drop out due to the ongoing SAG strike and has been replaced by newcomer Carla Tous.

Paddington 3 has two release dates

The film will premiere in the United Kingdom on Nov. 8, 2024. A couple of months later, Paddington will arrive in the U.S. on Jan. 17, 2025. With production ongoing and the great cast involved, Paddington in Peru is set to be another great entry in the hit franchise.
