Invasion Season 3 release updates, cast, synopsis and more

Invasion just wrapped up its second season on Apple TV+. But what are the chances for a third season, and what can it be about? Here’s what we know!

Season 2 of the sci-fi drama focusing on Earth handling a deadly alien invasion built up the subplots from over its run for a wild finale. Mitsuki finally got the alien portal to work for Trevante to enter it. There, he found himself in a  strange maze where he reunited with Caspar. Luke managed to get the other psychic children to join their powers and stop the alien advance.

Caspar and Trevante seemed set to find the mysterious source of the shard that might spell a way to stop the invasion. However, Caspar’s eyes glowed a sinister blue, hinting something had changed inside him.

That was a wild finale, so what are the chances the show gets another season?

Will Invasion return for a third season?

Speaking to SlashFilm, showrunner Simon Kingberg addressed Season 3’s chances, saying they have a plan for it and it depends on what Apple TV+ decides.

"“We were working on season 3 scripts before the [writers] strike started, and we’re working on those scripts, and the response to season 2 has been really, really positive, and even bigger than season 1. Apple’s been really happy with the show. So fingers crossed we will get a shot at making season 3.”"

So Kinberg is hopeful for another season but it depends on the final viewing numbers and Apple willing to go for it.

What could Invasion season 3 be about?

Kinberg didn’t give specific hints for what Season 3 is but acknowledged he had an overall plan that can also include a possible Season 4.

"“I saw the second season as part one, like the first 30 minutes of the second act of a movie, which is where you really start to get into the action. Then I saw, in my hopes and dreams, a season 3 like the back half of the second act of a movie where now the action is really accelerated, and the challenges are massive and seem insurmountable. Then if, God willing, we were to have a fourth season, that’s where, for me, it would be the third act of just final conflict and everything erupting, and then resolving. So there was a build, and it did mimic in many ways the structure of a movie.”"

That’s a promising idea, as Season 2 did amp up the action for the series, and Season 3 looks set to rile it up more.

Obviously, there’s no word on any cast changes as of yet, but it’s a safe bet that the main cast will reprise their roles as their stories are not complete:

There is no premiere date for Invasion season 3 (yet)

Given the lack of a start date and issues regarding the SAG strikes, if Invasion Season 3 airs, it likely wouldn’t be until late 2024 or even early 2025.

As of now, Apple hasn’t made an official decision, but fans are hopeful the saga of Invasion can continue for the planned climax the creators want. In the meantime, rewatch the first two seasons on Apple TV+.
