The Librarians: The Next Chapter release updates and everything we know so far

Anyone who has been paying attention to The CW knows the youngest network a part of the Big 5 is in a new era that’s seen some big changes. Nexstar is now the majority owner and they’re working to define what their vision of The CW is as they move the network out of the superhero business and into programming meant to attract a broader audience. This, of course, means trying to retain longtime viewers and court new ones. An excellent way to do this is to become the home of The Librarians: The Next Chapter.

The spin-off series, which was announced on May 18, 2023, is a part of the beloved The Librarian franchise that got its start in 2004 with Quest for the Spear. Fans have been anticipating a return to this universe since The Librarians TV series was canceled by TNT in 2018. The Next Chapter, set for a premiere in 2024, follows a Librarian from the past who time travels to the present and then can’t return home. While stuck in our time he discovers his castle has been turned into a museum and, unfortunately, he winds up releasing magic across the continent. The Librarian then must work with his new team to fix the mess he’s created.

When does The Librarians: The Next Chapter begin filming?

According to a post on X (formerly known as Twitter) from showrunner and executive producer Dean Devlin, filming is set to start for The Librarians: The Next Chapter next year. Considering the SAG-AFTRA strike is ongoing, it should come as no surprise that production is slated for 2024. There’s been no confirmation that the writers room is open.

The cast also hasn’t been announced which has left us wondering if fans who’ve been along for the ride since the beginning should be bracing for new faces to take the lead roles in the new series. We’ll keep you posted on whether Noah Wyle will be in the CW show. So far, there’s been no word on if The Librarians: The Next Chapter will air in the 2023-2024 schedule or the 2024-2024 line-up.
