If you’ve been on social media lately and happen to be a Friends fan, odds are you might have seen a sweet story about Lisa Kudrow seeking to adopt Matthew Perry’s dog following Perry’s tragic death on Oct. 28. Given how close the Friends cast was, the story absolutely sounded like something Kudrow would do and the story touched many fans’ hearts. Sadly, there is no truth to the story circulating.

As sources confirmed to People, there is no truth to the story circulating due to one glaring fact: Perry did not own a dog at the time of his death.

Matthew Perry’s dog Alfred went to his ex when they split

If you’ve been on social media, reports suggested that Lisa Kudrow was going to adopt Matthew Perry’s dog but the sad reality is that Perry has not owned a dog since 2021.

Back in 2018, Perry began dating literary agent Molly Hurwitz, and the pair got engaged in late 2020 before calling off their engagement in June 2021. While together, Perry and Hurwitz adopted a doodle mix named Alfred and Perry was indeed a dog dad.

When he split with Hurwitz, it seems the pair agreed for Alfred to remain with Hurwitz as the lovable pup has been a staple on her social media pages. Hurwitz has openly spoken about the bond she shares with Alfred writing in one post in September that the three-year-old pup helped her during a time of depression and is the “most lovable potato.”

Matthew Perry’s former fiance honors late actor

Following Perry’s passing, his former fiance Molly Hurwitz was among the many individuals from Perry’s life who took to social media to honor the late actor. In a post shared days after Perry’s death, Hurwitz recalled re-watching Friends before Perry’s reunion with his fellow castmates for Max’s Friends reunion special and how Perry would love knowing how much his work meant to the world.

"“He would love that the world is talking about how talented he was. And he really was very talented. As the Friends reunion was approaching, we rewatched the show together. ‘F—, I was so good!!!’See what I did there???’ We rewound and studied scenes. Our respect and appreciation of humor is something that connected us. Being with him as he rediscovered his brilliance was magical.”"

Hurwitz acknowledged that their relationship caused her hardships and pain, but expressed “tremendous gratitude” for her former fiance.

"“While I loved him deeper than I could comprehend, he was complicated, and he caused pain like I’d never known,” she wrote. “No one in my adult life has had a more profound impact on me than Matthew Langford Perry. I have tremendous gratitude for that, for everything I learned from our relationship.”"

She also acknowledged Perry’s struggle with drugs and alcohol, thanking the support she found in Al Anon groups and the “invaluable resource” they provide “for those who love someone struggling with this destructive disease,” before closing her statement, “Matty, I feel relief that you are at peace.”
