And Just Like That season 3 release updates, cast, and everything we know
Updated Nov. 9, 2023 – We’ll be honest. Most of the time, sequels and revivals don’t work. They just don’t feel the same. Thankfully though, that’s definitely not the case with And Just Like That! The show is a sequel to Sex and the City, which aired for six seasons from 1998 to 2004. The follow-up series premiered in December 2021, with the second season following in June 2023. So what’s the latest news about And Just Like That season 3?
The show is developed by executive producer Michael Patrick King. Joining him in EP duties are the three leading ladies – Sarah Jessica Parker, Kristin Davis, and Cynthia Nixon – as well as John Melfi, Julie Rottenberg, and Elisa Zuritsky. Here’s everything we know about the third season ahead of its release!
And Just Like That season 3 release updates: Writers room reopens
Good news! And Just Like That has been renewed for season 3! Warner Bros. Discovery, which is the parent company of streaming service Max, shared the exciting announcement on Aug. 22, 2023. In the press release, Sarah Aubrey who is the Head of Original Content at Max said:
"We are delighted to share that since the launch of season two, And Just Like That… ranks as the #1 Max Original overall, and is the most-watched returning Max Original to date."
Right now we don’t know when And Just Like That… season 3 is coming out. We don’t have a release date yet. It’s also hard to predict since the show’s freshman season debuted in December 2021, but season 2 came out in the summer in June 2023. Perhaps the company is aiming for another summer release? We won’t know until official news comes out.
Both seasons of the show are currently streaming on Max. The streamer has three tiers to choose from for a subscription plan. It costs $9.99/month with ads, $15.99/month ad-free, and $19.99/month ultimate ad-free. If you’re in the mood for the series that started it all, the six seasons of Sex and the City are streaming on Hulu. It costs $7.99/month with ads or $14.99/month without ads.
Is season 3 affected by the strikes?
Compared to other shows, I wouldn’t say the series is affected by the strikes too much. The season 2 finale aired Thursday, Aug. 24, 2023. And with the season 1 finale coming out in February 2022, we had to wait more than a year for the second season debut. So I think the writers strike and the actors strike aren’t going to effect it very much.
Thankfully, the writers strike has been resolved. And official news has come, per Deadline, that the writers room for And Just Like That season 3 has reopened. That means the writers are currently hard at work writing the scripts for the new season! However a production start date has not been set yet. But, that might change soon!
On Nov. 9, 2023, the actors strike is officially over and has come to an end. SAG-AFTRA and the big studios have come to a tentative three-year agreement. Voting still needs to happen for it to go into effect. However, this does mean that actors are no longer striking and can get back to work, as well as promote any projects they have going on. And so, I don’t think the third season of the Sex and the City spin-off will be too delayed.
